What to watch from August 15-21 on Netflix, HBO Max, Movistar +, Disney + and Prime Video: premiere movies and series on VOD

It seems like yesterday that we started the month, and today we reach the halfway point of August. We are only two weeks away from the start of September, and with it the world forgets about summer and gets back on track. But there is still time to enjoy, there are still ‘summer days’ that Amaral sang about. And this week there are things to see.

The most prominent premiere is undoubtedly Disney + and Marvel, because this August we have the series of She-Hulk: Defender of Heroes, a miniseries centered on Jennifer Walters, the cousin of the well-known Bruce Banner / Hulk, who ends up receiving part of the powers of her well-known cousin, transforming herself into a super-powerful green entity while trying to maintain her law career and her normal life . As a good Marvel series, we expect total continuity with the MCU and surprise cameos.

On Netflix and for horror fans we have Soul, series in which the protagonist of the same name wakes up in a hospital without remembering anything after a bus accident where most of her classmates die. Her house is full of memories that are not hers and both her amnesia and her trauma cause her to experience night terrors and visions that she cannot explain.

In Cleo we have a revenge thriller with a female lead turned high level spy who is arrested and imprisoned, being betrayed by her government and family. When she is released two years later, she discovers that the conspiracy behind her imprisonment is much bigger than she bargained for.

And the romantic comedy with a fantastic touch my two lives, in which Natalie’s life is divided into two parallel realities after taking a pregnancy test the night of her graduation party. What will her life and love bring him?

On Prime Video cop shop: Action thriller where a small town police station turns into a battlefield to catch a hit man. Starring Gerard Butler. Y First love: a film that focuses on the moment that goes from a teenager to an adult due to a love failure. In addition, it is seasoned with family problems. Quite a challenge to overcome.

bull

Premieres by M+ (dial 11). Neil Maskell plays one of the toughest characters in the history of British film noir (in the vein of Michael Caine in the mythical ‘Relentless Killer’) in this revenge story that was very well received by critics in the United Kingdom. Maskell plays Bull, who, after ten years missing from his town, returns to take revenge on those who betrayed him back then…especially his former father-in-law, a local mob boss.

Rhinoceros

Premieres by M+ (dial 11). The rise and fall of a criminal in this gritty post-Soviet mob drama. ‘Rhino’ is a film with social overtones and reminiscences of Scorsese that tells the story of a boy who grows up surrounded by the crisis in the deranged Ukraine of the 1990s and who rises to the top in the underworld thanks to the extreme violence and intimidation… but what goes up, ends up falling. The initial sequence shot is one of the best and most imaginative of the year without a doubt.

Wednesday 17

Delicious

M+ (dial 11). Eating is an art. Historical film, set on the eve of the French Revolution, about the first restaurant in the world to emerge outside the nobility. Quite a visual feast -who tasted any of the dishes!- starring Grégory Gadebois and Isabelle Carré. Mix of drama, irony and a touch of romance, the film is set in the deranged France of 1789. Pierre Manceron is a very demanding and passionate chef who works for the Duke of Chamfort.

Camera cafe, the film

Premieres by M+ (dial 11). Ernesto Sevilla’s first feature film as a director is a hilarious comedy that navigates between the grotesque Berlanguiano and the most typically Spanish manners thanks to one of the most memorable casts in television fiction: that of ‘Camera Café’. Quesada, Julián and Cañizares, among many others, meet again in front of the coffee machine to face one of the company’s great crises: the appointment of Quesada (Arturo Valls) as director. The choral cast is maintained, but the focus is on the character of Arturo Valls, a brother-in-law, a tacky and pathetic sales manager who risks closing his company in a sales competition with the Portuguese delegation, led by Victoria de la Vega (Ana Milan).

Paranormal Activity: Kindred

Premieres 2 by M+ (dial 12). The danger is reborn… in a dark farm. Reboot of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise written by Christopher Landon, director and screenwriter of ‘Happy Death Day’ as well as the installment ‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’ (2014). On this occasion, we follow the story of Margot, a young woman who travels to a remote and eccentric community in search of answers to the strange disappearance of her mother. The film exudes terror on all four sides: it is again produced by the production company Blumhouse, it is recorded in documentary format and it is directed by William Eubank, a great expert in stories with characters on the edge.

Sunday 21

the worst person in the world

Premieres by M+ (dial 11). With this film, nominated for best international film at the 2022 Oscars, Joachim Trier closes his Oslo trilogy, completed by ‘Reprise’ and ‘Oslo, August 31’. ‘The worst person in the world’ gives us the character of Julie, a young Norwegian who is around thirty years old and who has to decide who to be when the path of the established ends and it is time to make decisions. Throughout 12 chapters, a prologue and an epilogue, the film addresses different perspectives of Julie’s life, turning points that come together in search of answers to questions such as who she wants to be, what she wants to do or who she wants to love. .
