HBO just surprised us all by announcing the cancellation of ‘Westworld’ after 4 seasons. Its creators had hopes of having one more to give the closure they wanted to the story, but it will not be possible and the science fiction series is left without an end.
Everything suggests that the cancellation is part of Warner’s restructuring work to reduce costs and focus on those projects that do have the expected success. Because it is true that ‘Westworld’ became HBO’s flagship series during its first two seasons, but then its popularity dropped a lot, to the point that his fourth installment went relatively unnoticedespecially if we compare it with the reception it has had ‘The house of the dragon’.

For its part, Kilter Films, the producer of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joyhas highlighted that “making Westworld has been one of the highlights of our careers. We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and brilliant worlds. We have been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness – both human and beyond – in the short space of time left before our AI overlords forbid us.“.
Now we will have to see how the fans of the series reactbecause HBO does not usually leave the series halfway and at the time they were already able to do a movie of ‘Deadwood’ to close it all that premiered 13 years after its third season. It doesn’t seem likely that the same will happen here, mind you.
