‘Vigilante’: discover the true story behind the Ryan Murphy series on Netflix

The horror genre, which always borders on the fine line that separates it from suspense, that’s why some films move only through the disturbing and others directly evolve through fright or gore. Netflix, which does not miss the opportunity to cover all genres, has always had a particular predilection for this one, which also usually succeeds among its subscribers. For this reason, on Thursday, October 13, Vigilante premieres, its new horror thriller that is based on two strong points: it is a true story and the cast that tells it is exceptional.

In this miniseries, released in English as The Watcher, we know the story of the Brannock family, whose life changes completely after moving to their dream house in the suburbs. However, what at first seemed like the beginning of the best stage of the clan quickly turns into hell. Ominous letters from someone calling themselves “the Watcher” are just the beginning, as each neighborhood secret that comes to light is more sinister than the last. Inspired by the true story of the infamous “Watchman’s House” in New Jersey.

    Vigilant: Netflix horror miniseries cast

Dean (bobby cannavale) and Nora Brannock (naomi watts) have just bought their dream home in an idyllic suburb of Westfield, New Jersey, but after pouring all their savings into closing the deal, they soon realize the neighborhood is very unwelcoming. First, there’s Pearl (mia farrow)—an eccentric old lady—and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney), who breaks into the Brannock house and hides in the forklift. Then Karen (Jennifer Coolidge), Nora’s real estate agent and old friend, who makes them feel awkward and out of place. And the nosy neighbors Mitch (Richard Kind) And mo (margo martindale), who do not seem to understand the boundaries between their houses. The cold welcome quickly turns into hell when threatening letters begin to arrive from someone calling himself “the Watcher”. The Brannocks are terrified and closer to breaking as their neighbors’ sinister secrets come to light.

Completing the cast are Joe Mantello, Noma Dumezweni, Christopher McDonald, Michael Nouri, Isabel Gravitt, Henry Hunter Hall and Luke David Blumm.

Vigilant: the true story that inspires the Netflix miniseries

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan (Dahmer, The Politicians, glee, Hollywood) collaborate again in this 7-episode fiction to explore the true story of the infamous “Watchman’s house” in New Jersey. The real family of this lurid tale is not Brannock, but Broaddus, whose only “sin” was pursuing one of the standards of the American dream, that of the classic Dutch colonial house in Westfield, New Jersey, just 45 kilometers from Manhattan.

After purchasing the house, they began to receive a series of terrifying letters warning that their new home and their young children were under the constant surveillance of a stranger who knew intimate details of their lives. Such was Derek and Maria’s fear for the safety of their children that they never moved into the house and actually sold it at a significant loss in value.

The most sinister of all, is not only the fact of the harassment itself, but the content of the letters. In them, El Vigilante acknowledged belonging to a family saga that had had its eyes on that house for years and hinted that secrets were hidden there. However, this was inconsistent with the statements of the previous residents of the house, who admitted having received only one letter just before moving in after 23 years living there. The mystery of the authorship of these threats, even today, remains unsolved.
