For all those who cannot wait a week to find out what will happen in this story, HBO Max has presented a preview of what the viewer will be able to see in the second chapter. The clip shows the next steps that the protagonists will take. The long-awaited adaptation centers on the relationship between bootlegger Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and 14-year-old orphan Ellie (Bella Ramsey), as they embark on a journey across a post-apocalyptic United States. When a trafficking deal goes awry, Marlene (Merle Dandridge) enlists Joel and his partner Tess (Anna Torv) to escort the teen out of the Boston Quarantine Zone to Firefly headquarters.

After taking her first steps outside of the city, the video highlights Ellie’s curiosity about the hellish landscape before her and all she will have to do to survive. At some point in the video she asks the smuggler about the experience of killing zombies. She questions him if he thinks about the people these creatures once were. For Joel’s part, he seems to put an emotional distance with the young woman.

The preview also shows Joel, Ellie and Tess facing off against clickers, the creatures named for their clicking noises, using echolocation to navigate their surroundings since they can’t see. In addition, Melanie Lynskey can be seen playing Kathleen, the leader of a violent group of survivors who may end up crossing paths with the protagonists. The next chapter promises a terrifying and painful journey, fraught with horrors for the survivors.

The trailer also highlights possible allies the heroes meet along their journey, including Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Woodard), a pair of surviving brothers, as well as Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett), smugglers who were mocked. Ellie’s friend Riley (Storm Reid) also appears in the trailer. Since Marlene did not appear in the premiere, the video shows the connection between the two, promising the orphan’s backstory and describing the events that led to her becoming infected.
