Alfonso Iturralde had an extensive career in film, theater and television. He is especially remembered for his participation in well-known soap operas such as ‘Rebelde’, ‘La fuerza del destino’, ‘Alebrijes y Rebujos’ and ‘Marimar’, where he played the famous villain Renato Santibanez.

The Televisa production became a television phenomenon both in Mexico and in several Latin American countries, and despite having passed almost 30 years since its premiereor, it continues to be remembered and current in the memory of the public.

In this soap opera, Alfonso Iturralde played the role of Renato Santibáñez, the wealthy and arrogant owner of the Santibáñez hacienda and father of Sergio. The character of Renato Santibáñez stood out for making Marimar go through various humiliations.

He had prostate cancer

Throughout his career on Mexican television, Alfonso Iturralde has accumulated a wide trajectory, participating in a large number of soap operas, TV shows and movies. With more than 40 productions, It has become one of the most representative male faces in melodramas.

Among his most outstanding works are telenovelas such as ‘Tiempos de Amar’, ‘Mi querida Isabel’, ‘Carita de ángel’, ‘Por un beso’, ‘Bajo la misma piel’, ‘The most beautiful ugly’, ‘Alegrijes y rebujos’, ‘The force of destiny’, among other.

At one point in his life, Alfonso Iturralde faced a very difficult situation in his personal life. when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Although he underwent treatment to combat the disease, unfortunately this was unsuccessful, leading to the need for surgery to remove his prostate.

“I had a treatment, the treatment did not help. They had to operate on me, remove the prostate, remove the cancer and I am a survivor of this, that I can tell you, “said the actor in an interview for the ‘Ventaneando’ program in 2019.
