“Heads are going to roll”: Mike Tyson explodes against Hulu for stealing his story in a new series

In the US, there is a fairly lax regulation when it comes to bringing movies or series based on real events to the screen, which can usually go ahead regardless of the position of the people involved in said events. This leads to there being some controversy from time to time, as happened with Pam & Tommy either Winning Time: The Lakers Dynastyfrom which he furiously distanced himself Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The figures of the day see with displeasure how their lives are taken to the screen without their permission or manipulated, and Mike Tyson He just joined this group by bashing Hulu very aggressively.

Why? Because the platform streaming has developed a miniseries based on the life of this legendary boxer, and according to him has not resorted to his approval at any point in the project. Tyson already expressed his discomfort about it in February 2021, considering it “a blatant cultural appropriation”, but the miniseries went ahead. Your title is Mike and is signed by Craig Gillespie (director of I, Tonya Y cruel) while Trevante Rhodes embodies the boxer. Hulu has set the premiere date for this August 25thand given the proximity of the appointment Tyson has started a smear campaign on networks.

“Hulu is the version in streaming of the slave trade. They stole my story and didn’t pay me.” titles his latest Instagram post. This heads an image where we read: “Don’t let Hulu fool you. I don’t support her story about my life. It’s not 1822. It’s 2022. My life story has been stolen and I haven’t been paid. To Hulu execs I’m just a nigga they can sell at auction.”. Tyson extends his fury to Twitter, where he insists that “Hulu stole my story. They are Goliath, I am David. Heads are going to roll for this.”. It also ensures that “Hulu’s model of stealing the life rights of celebrities is outrageously greedy.”

On the other hand, Tyson appreciates that Dana Whitepresident of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) has refused to promote Mike despite the fact that Hulu proposed it, offering “millions of dollars”. “He rejected him because he honors friendship and the dignified treatment of people”points the boxer. Karin Gist is the showrunner of Mike, and has not yet directly addressed the controversy. “We wanted to tell an unbiased story and let the audience decide what they think or feel. Challenge what people think they know about Mike, and hope they end the series with something to think about.”has declared.

If Tyson fails to prevent it, Mike will arrive at Hulu at the end of August, leaving the question as to whether we would have it in Spain through Star (on Disney+), as is often the case with productions from this destination.
