The concept changed six years ago and it was not a consequence of chance: shopping at the supermarket should not be an obligation, but rather become a pleasure ride. Grupo Disco Uruguay (GDU), in its Fresh Market stores, has achieved this in an experience that is highly valued by consumers, who discover when visiting the pleasant stores that healthy dishes with the traditional taste of food prepared at home.
This innovative idea, which was taken up as a reference in other countries, is now also highlighted in the premises located at José Scosería 2628, in the heart of Pocitos. The place has a historical value, because it was the first supermarket in the Río de la Plata, in the 1960s, and now it has been transformed into a Fresh Market with innovative concepts. In this area, it is planned to open a sourdough bread bakery shortly, which already represents 30% of the sale of bread sold in three stores.
“The Fresh Markets are the first where one organizes the route according to their needs”, explained the Director of GDU Concept, Carlos Pombo. “It is not minor to arrive at a place where you can quickly visualize where you want to go, without having to travel all the meters. It is the evolution of the supermarket.”
GDU adds 25 Fresh Markets and this month two more will start operating, in Solymar (the first in Canelones) and Agraciada. Thus, consumers will continue to enjoy shopping.
