Tennant, who previously played the Tenth Doctor Who, will return for a series of three specials in November 2023which will lead to the introduction of Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, with Catherine Tate also returning as the Doctor’s former companion, Donna Noble.
Finney’s character on the show
In the midst of all this, the BBC announced that Finney will be joining the series as a character named Rose, a name that has a lot of relevance for fans of Doctor Who. Many fans are confident that Finney will play Donna’s daughter, named after the Doctor’s former partner, Rose Tyler. Without giving too much away, Finney joked while speaking to Vogue that her role in Doctor Who will “change the world.”
“There are spies,” he says. “If I’m talking about the Whoniverse, it’s over. All I can say is that I am so honored that Russell sees me… I remember growing up idolizing her. I am happy to be the representation of a series that means a lot to so many.”
Although Finney is not the first transgender actress to appear in Doctor Who (she would be Bethany Black in the episode ‘Sleep No More’), she is one of the few.
