This production will follow the story of a boxer who is already in the last stage of his career. The character is played by Mexican actor Gael García Bernal. Motivated by his manager (Diego Luna), the athlete will have one last chance to win a title. The road will not be easy for either of them, since they will have to face a powerful and unlawful organization.
“The Machine”, an original series on the streaming platform Hulu, will be directed by Gabriel Ripstein (600 miles, A Strange Enemy). The showrunner will be Marco Ramirez, known for his work on Daredevil.
The production will be in charge of Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperin and Adam Fishbach; and La Corriente del Golfo, a company of the same protagonists of the series Diego Luna and Gael García.
“The Machine” is Searchlight Television’s third project for Hulu Originals. Searchlight Television is part of Searchlight Pictures, and is dedicated to the production of series for streaming platforms and television channels.
“It’s truly an honor to reunite Gael and Diego on screen with The Machine; it’s wonderful to enjoy the friendship and chemistry between them,” Searchlight presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said in a statement.
This is not the first time that Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna have worked together. They already did it in “Y Tu Mama Tambien”, a film directed by Alfonso Cuarón and released in 2001; and “My father’s house” from 2012.
The producer has not yet announced who will be the other actors or actresses who will be part of the cast or the date on which the recordings will begin.
