The first Mexican film and television actress, Anabel Gutierrezwho died at the age of 89 this weekend, began his artistic career in the late 1940s and became a legend of the golden age of mexican cinema. She stood out as a daring and flirtatious young woman without malice, a personality that transcended to the big screen and brought her closer to actors Pedro Infante and Miroslava Stern, as well as comedians Gaspar Henaine, Capulina, and Roberto Gómez Bolaños, ‘Chespirito’.

It was her partnership with the white humor actor that brought her closer to working with Florinda Meza on ‘Chespirito’, who made her have unpleasant moments during the recordings.

Anabelle Rafaela Gutiérrez Aicua, better known as Anabel Gutiérrez, wanted to become an actress since she was little while growing up in the artistic environment in which her family worked: her father was an actor, her mother a dancer; her maternal grandfather, a comic actor, and her maternal grandmother, a couplet singer; her paternal grandfather, a theater impresario, and her paternal grandmother, an opera singer.

With half a hundred unforgettable performances in films like The League of Girls, Huracán Ramírez, tailored gentlemenone of his most remembered roles is that of the film homeless schoolalongside Infante and Miroslava in 1955, a performance with which a year later he would win the Ariel for best youth performance.

Gutiérrez transcended his film career to establish himself on the small screen in telenovelas such as Women’s prison, Mexico 1900 Y Angel Face, among other. But as same as homeless school placed her in stardom, her character of “Doña Espotaverderona” in the segment of ‘Los caquitos’ in the comic series Chespiritoalso became emblematic.

But for the established film actress, working in Chespirito it was very complicated because of its main actress, Florinda Meza.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños met Gutiérrez thanks to the film he wrote, little angels of the trapezein 1959. Two decades later, the comedian looked for the actress -who had decreased her presence in the forums-, for a role in his series.

“He told me, ‘Anabel, if you like it, you do it; if you don’t like it, tell me. I came to Televisa, they introduced me to the staffand he told me ‘go choose your wardrobe’, and I chose (‘Doña Espotaverderona’s wardrobe’), because I really liked the character of ‘la Chimoltrufia’, same I dressed. When we did the program, he asked me (Gómez Bolaños) ‘what happened, did you like it?’, ‘I loved it!’, ‘you stay’, and I stayed, “said the Ariel winner on the program 24xSecond in 2019.

About the comedian, Gutiérrez went out of his way to praise: “he was a loaf, he was a wonderful man, I loved him very much as a co-worker; kind, cute, attentive, you work with him at ease.” But those words he could not repeat with his partner florindawho was also the partner of Gomez Bolanos.

On that occasion, Anabel remembered that Meza made her feel angry to the point of tears, “I’m not saying he’s a bad person, but he had a very difficult character.” The conflicts were so well known in the Televisa forums that one day she was sent for a call from Emilio Azcárraga Milmo, president of the television station. “On behalf of Mr. (Azcárraga) Milmo, that the next time you leave a forum crying because of the courage that this person (Meza) made you pass through, the one who is leaving Televisa, is you”. And then she never cried again.

Aware of her privileged situation, Meza once again tried to humiliate Gutiérrez, but on that occasion, Azcárraga Milmo would have been a witness. “One day (Florinda) told me ‘I’m going to take you to the dressing room,’ ‘to me, to the dressing room? For what, Florinda?’ Anabel asked her; ‘to teach you to be an actress,’ she replied. ” Well, you’re an actress from the movies, but from television, no,” Florinda told him. The brief interaction would have been heard by the owner and president of Televisa. “It was where he got courage.”

Anabel continued on the show with sporadic appearances until 1995.

His career would gradually come to an end and he decided to end it with soap operas, including Hurrah for the children from 2002, under the same skin of 2003, and Lola, once upon a time from 2007.

The actress died on August 21, 2022, in Puebla.
