It will be one of the most important launches in the history of the platform, and Amazon wants to take advantage of it to attract many subscribers; and when they arrive, you want to make sure they’re comfortable and don’t leave. For it, Amazon has completely revamped the app from Prime Video.
The new app, which has already been announced but is not yet available, has a more modern and attractive design, although no one is unaware that it is very similar to Netflix. As designers look for the best way to attract an audience and display content that might interest us, it is inevitable that they will find the same solutions; at least the Prime Video app still has some original details.

Amazon claims that the priority with the redesign has been to create an app less “crowded and overwhelming”, and that is why it has now divided the screen in two: a main view and a sidebar that gathers all the accesses to the different parts of the app. In short, like Netflix.
The icons on the left are shortcuts to app sections, like search, home screen, store, live TV, and our purchases. Inside the home screen, we have several sections dedicated to movies, TV series and sports; likewise, the store has sections for Prime channels (subscriptions if we have them), rentals and purchases, and more. In the same way, all the content that is already included with our Prime subscription now has a blue mark, which will indicate that we can simply start watching it.
The home screen, the place where we’ll spend the most time, has changed to make it easier to find our next entertainment, including a new “Top 10” that will show us at a glance everything that is being popular at the moment, so that we do not miss a series that has gone viral.
Another novelty is what Amazon calls “Super Carousel”a carousel style that shows the poster of the movie or series and that is capable of showing a video preview when we hover over it, something that will undoubtedly be familiar to you but that, until now, was not available in Prime Video .
In short, there are few things that are really original in the new Prime Video app, but they are all new things that we wanted to see and that will make the experience much easier and more attractive. The launch of the app will take place in phases, and they will be updated first televisions with Fire TV, as well as Android devices with an update to the app that will arrive over the next two weeks; iOS users will have to wait a few months, but at least they will get the update. Not all users will be able to say the same: Amazon has taken the opportunity to abandon older devices, such as the PlayStation 3 console or old Apple TVs, although the current app will continue to work.
