Youth Symphony Orchestra in Miami dedicates play to family

MIAMI.- The Adrienne Arsht Center and the orchestra Greater Miami Youth Symphony (GMYS) announce the creation of their first composition musical dedicated to family, a celebration of life in the tropics. Conceived in Florida, the score entitled The Ocean Lives There (The Ocean Lives There) is inspired by an illustrated book by Miami author MJ Fievre and is composed by a Broward musician for GMYS, both institutions announced.

The piece will have its world premiere on April 15, at 1:30 pm, when the orchestra I performed it as part of the free series Family Fest of the Arsht Center.

“The Ocean Lives There celebrates music and literature made in Florida, educates young musicians to pursue new jobs, and provides an accessible and engaging music experience for families,” Jairo Ontiveros, vice president of Florida, said in a statement. arts education and community engagement from the Arsht Center.

Ethan Soledad, from Broward, was selected to compose this new piece during the initial phase of the project, which began this summer with a search and selection.

At just 23 years old, Soledad’s compositions, a Florida State University graduate, have been presented at the Etchings Festival (Massachusetts), the Charlotte New Music Festival (NC) and the Oregon Bach Festival Composer Symposium.

“With Ethan’s talent, we transformed the rich sounds of life near the equator into a musical gift for generations of audiences and young musicians,” continued Ontiveros.

The Ocean Lives There It will include live narration and interactive components, in addition to a performance by GMYS. Founded in 1958, GMYS It is a musical training program that lasts all year and in which 600 students, between 5 and 18 years of age, participate.
