With mariachi, Cerritos Center opens the Christmas concert season

After the austerity of the pandemic, the colorful mariachi and other Christmas concerts return to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

With the Mariachi Sol de México by José Hernández, and the female Reyna de Los Ángeles, in addition to DanzArts Sabor México Dance Company, on Saturday, December 4, the festivities season kicks off.

The cultural celebration brings to the stage a colorful and traditional Mexican event filled with seasonal songs, dances and festive cheer on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5.

And for those who thought to wait a little longer for the proximity of the Posadas and Christmas, it is good that they know that the tickets usually run out in advance.

Formed in 1981, José Hernández’s Sol de México is a team of 14 musicians and vocalists who embody the spirit of Mexico and its people.

On its 25th anniversary, the group’s José Hernández y Su Mariachi Sol de México was nominated for a Latin Grammy for “Best Mexican / Mexican-American Album,” making the band the first mariachi ensemble to earn that recognition.

Characterized by its openness to various musical currents, the Sol de México can play from the classical that the Huapango de Moncayo has, to the Pop expressions of American music.

Sol de México has performed with music greats José Feliciano, Willie Nelson and The Beach Boys.

The group worked on the Hollywood soundtracks for Sea Biscuit, The Old Gringo and Don Juan de Marco. Along with Sol de México on stage is the female mariachi group Reyna from Los Angeles.

Staying true to their music and creative spirit, the ensemble mixes renowned mariachi masterpieces with popular versions. The company has enchanted fans with its spirit and energy that reflect Mexico’s vibrant musical heritage.

Founded by acclaimed artistic director and choreographer Patricia Astorga-Casey, DanzArts Sabor México Dance Company strives to preserve the heritage of Mexico and Spain by raising cultural awareness and giving back to the community through dance.
