His followers were already demanding it of him and they did not hesitate to please them. Willy Chirino and his wife Lissette Álvarez will return to the stage to present Christmas in family, the now traditional concert that in recent years has become a must for music lovers of yesteryear in the days around Christmas.
The event will take place at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Saturday, December 18 at 8 PM.
“I think that the success of this concert is based on two factors. First, it is a show for the whole family that celebrates the best in all of us. Second, the music. It is a music that transcends borders and that unites us, both Latinos and Americans, ”Willy told el Nuevo Herald. “Also, I think people love to see our family have fun on stage. We must not forget that this show is an extension of what happens in our home every year when we meet with our family and friends, and that joy is contagious ”.
The salsa singer and Lissette recalled that last year they had to cancel the event due to the pandemic, but this time they will return “with everything in a very special setting for us Cubans.” As usual, the concert format mimics those classic North American television programs featuring well-known artists such as Bing Crosby, Andy Williams and Judy Garland, who, year after year, brought their loved ones and friends together to celebrate the Christmas holidays. .
The concert, under the direction of Gonzalo Rodríguez, will feature the participation of the couple’s daughters –Angie, Olgui, Jesse, Alana and Nicolle–, as well as their granddaughter Elis.
The first part of the program will be dedicated to Christmas songs of all time. Among other topics will be heard Silent Night, White Christmas, Little tree and White Christmas.
There will also be a segment with themes from Disney movies, a painting dedicated to Cuba and a tribute to the remembered singer Tony Álvarez, from the legendary duo Olga and Tony, Lissette’s father.
“Lissette is going to dedicate a song to her father. This is a special arrangement of a song that I composed called For my old man, which we have accompanied with a series of images that will remember that great gentleman of the song, the artist, the husband, the father and the grandfather ”, Chirino anticipated, after noting that Tony had a very special sense of humor and a great gift of people. “Both he and Olga entered our homes weekly through television and we seemed to be part of the family.”
In the second part of the show Willy and Lissette will review their successes –I am guajiro, total eclipse of love, Black stockings, I’m going to divide it, among others – and then join their voices in a grand finale.
“Music is a blessing that unites us. Every year at Christmas we gather with our friends to toast all that God has given us. Now, we want to share those evenings with a few thousand fans who through our careers have become family as well, ”Lissette said. “This show is very special for us because it celebrates love, values and unity.”
And Olga Chorens, the matriarch of the clan, will be at the concert as on other occasions?
“Olga has participated in previous editions of the show, but this year we have given her the day off. Naturally, he will accompany us from the public, where he will greet his longtime admirers ”, Willy explained. “In their place we are going to have many other surprises that we are sure will bring a smile to the audience.”
