Who is Sam Ryder? The “new” Queen singer that everyone is talking about

Last Saturday, in the first of the long-awaited Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts, we were able to see many of the most surprising or novel appearances. One of them, without a doubt, was that of Sam Ryder, the singer who joined Foo Fighters, Brian May, Roger Taylor and his son Rufus Taylor to perform “Somebody to Love”. Despite everything, more than one has wondered, who is sam ryder? (via loudwire)

Born in Essex, UK, in June 1989, Ryder began to want to pursue music after seeing Sum 41 live. However, Iron Maiden awaited him along the way, especially ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son’, Freddie Mercury, Lordi and… Eurovision.

Throughout the previous decade, the singer toured and recorded with bands such as The Morning After, Blessed by a Broken Heart and Close Your Eyes. Music didn’t feed him, so in the meantime Sam worked construction with his father.

And then the pandemic came. During lockdown, around the time of March 2020, Ryder started covering songs on TikTok and it went viral. Not surprisingly, she became the most followed UK artist on the platform. The next logical step? Well, release an EP titled ‘The Sun’s Gonna Rise’ with Parlophone Records and, later, representing England in Eurovision 2022. Are you familiar with his face?

With the song “Space Man”, Ryder managed to dethrone Spain from second place in the festival, leaving Chanel Terrero in third place and, above, the Kalush Orchestra of Ukraine. Following her success, she also appeared in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and has toured the United States and South Korea.

And finally the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert, where she sang “Somebody to Love” like this:

To all this, Grohl introduced Ryder with these words:

“Tonight we have a very special guest that you may not expect. We didn’t. When we were talking about the next song we were going to perform, we weren’t really sure who we should bring in to sing it with us, and I think it was Roger Taylor who came up with the idea. Roger showed us a clip of someone performing this song, we made a phone call and within 20 minutes this person told us that he was coming over tonight to sing it with us. So please welcome the most incredible vocalist. Sam Ryder, come up and sing with us tonight.”

To all this, Ryder prepares to publish his first LP, ‘There’s Nothing But Space, Man!’which will see the light in October. Who knows what fate has in store for him… or if we’ll see him singing with Queen again.

We wish to say thanks to the writer of this article for this incredible material
