Wendy O. Williams concert DVD with Lemmy released – https://www.rockandrollarmy.com/magazine

Next November 18, 2022 is the date set for the DVD release of “Wendy O. Williams Live and Fucking Loud From London”a rare recording of a live concert by the indomitable Wendy O Williams for which he had the special guests Lemmy and Wurzel from Motorhead.

Recorded at London’s Camden Palace in 1985 and originally broadcast on Sky TV, this audiovisual document captures Williams at a high point in his career. The set includes an appearance by Motörhead’s Lemmy and Wurzel, who join Wendy onstage for the song “Jailbait”.

Wendy’s musical career began in 1977, when she met radical artist Rod Swenson in New York and he created The Plasmatics, a band around her that revolutionized American culture. They fused punk and metal when those urban tribes despised each other, and created stage shows that included Wendy sawing string guitars and blowing up life-size cars. Banned in London, arrested in Cleveland and Milwaukee, Wendy and the Plasmatics were introduced in 1981 by Tom Snyder on his late-night television show as “the best punk band in the world.”

In 1982, following the release of two albums (New Hope for the Wretched, and 1984’s Beyond the Valley), and an EP titled Metal Priestess, the Plasmatics released the landmark punk-metal fusion album Coup D’Etat. For the next two albums, Williams and Swenson decided not to use the Plasmatics name, cut out the theatrics (“I’ve already done it”), and focus on Wendy’s voice. The first of those records, the album WOW, was produced by Gene Simmons of KISS and earned Wendy a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance of the Year, and was chosen by heavy metal bible Kerrang as “Best Album of the Year”. Wanting to bring back the speed of the Plasmatics, Wendy’s next album, a full-fledged speed metal album, Kommander of Kaos (KOK), was released the following year. And it was during this period, in 1985, that this concert was recorded. The show was produced by Philip Goodhand-Taite and directed by Rod Swenson.
