Popular music singer Darío Gómez passed away on the night of this Tuesday, June 26, at the Clínica de las Américas, in Medellín, and the country mourns the death of one of the most loved and remembered artists.

With a long discography full of hits, Gómez was one of the forerunners of popular music in the country and paved the way for current artists making their way in the industry.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the singer published a video on his YouTube account where he answered some of the questions that he had been asked through social networks and that always aroused the curiosity of his fans.

Among them was the question of what had been the favorite concert or the one that had marked his career as an artist and it was precisely at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, the city where he finally ended his days.

He said that this concert, of which there is no certain date, was before more than 50,000 people and was the first he did in Medellín.

He also recounted that his favorite song was one of his biggest hits, Nobody is eternal in the world, but that his song for the party was the nosealso of his authorship.

When asked at what age he decided to dedicate himself to music, he stated that it was at the age of 16 when he made the decision to be a singer and that the first concert he gave in his life was in Pereira, at a soda fountain called Nereidas.

What did Darío Gómez die of?

In a statement issued by the clinic, the medical cause of his death is revealed. Gómez entered the emergency service on July 26 in a state of unconsciousness.

The clinic says that he suffered a sudden collapse at his residence and arrived without vital signs. Despite the fact that the hospital staff, one of the best in Antioquia, did everything possible to revive him, the singer died at 7:31 p.m.

It is expected that in the next few hours the singer’s family will make a statement together.

The “king of spite” was one of the artists most loved by Colombians. In social networks, thousands of people have turned to put their messages of condolence. It was the voice that millions listened to when they were disappointed in love. And because of that, she had that nickname, which he wore with pride.

On several occasions the singer revealed that this nickname was given to him by the announcer Nelson Moreno Holguín, at the time when he was promoting one of his albums in 1992, he presented it as Darío Gómez, the ‘king of spite’, and from there he used it for the rest of his career.

Today his followers remember what was one of his greatest successes, ‘No one is eternal’, the song that even inspired a soap opera broadcast on national television from 2007 to 2008.

Personalities from all over the country have lamented his death. One of the most emotional messages was put by former President Álvaro Uribe. “Sad night with Darío Gómez already reaching heaven. His songs and his personality remain lodged in the hearts of millions. Thank you, Master Darío”, he pointed out.

Through the same channel, the Ministry of Culture highlighted the importance of Darío Gómez in Colombian music and lamented his death. “We mourn the death of Darío Gómez, the ‘king of spite,’ a renowned Colombian singer and composer of popular music. We will forever remember his performances and the lyrics that have accompanied Colombians generation after generation.”
