This is FLO, the girlband that promises to revolutionize the music scene with the sounds of Destiny’s Child

Take note of these names: Reneé Downer, Stella Quaresma and Jorja Douglas. Why? Very simply, they are part of the new girlband that promises to become one of the most important of the 2020s. After the separation of Fifth Harmony and of LittleMix, we began to yearn for that female empowerment that women’s groups bring with them. Suddenly, they disappeared and we were orphaned from that part of the music industry.

Nevertheless, three girls aged 19 and 20 They have set out to cover that gap in an incredible way, taking up sounds that seemed to have been forgotten in our memory. FLO is the name of this London girlband that has set out to bring us back the sounds of R&B, pop and hip-hop that we listened to in the 2000s from the hand of FTA Y Destiny’s Child.

Renée and Stella met in high school, where a true friendship arose, and then they spontaneously met Jorja at a casting. The three together became inseparable and have formed a very nice group that is transmitted in music and outside of it. “We have not had to sell our friendship or force it to be transmitted in an authentic way, since for us it is very natural”, they explain in an interview for NME.

The group was formed in 2019, but they wanted to start working on their own sound before releasing any songs. For this reason, the debut of FLO has been this 2022, with an EP under the arm, which they have written themselves. They got together with M.N.E.K.one of the producers who has worked hand in hand with Little Mix and Dua Lipa.

They made their appearance with an amazing song called Cardboard Boxon April 1, 2022. A song that, if you close your eyes, transports you to that essence of Destiny’s Child, with R&B touches and very typical of the 2000s. The video clip is a nod to that time, thanks to the costumes and objects used by the artists. In addition, it already has three million views on YouTube, magnificent data for his musical debut.

On July 8 they premiered the work they had been betting on for months, The Lead. This five-song EP contains, in addition to Cardboard Boxthe topics Summertime, Feature Me, Another Guy (Acoustic) and innamature. This last song was the promotional single of the compilation and is about to reach million views in Youtube.

All of them are songs with an R&B and pop sound, where they want to send an empowering message and follow in the footsteps of the girl bands that stole our hearts. “We want to bring female empowerment to a new generation of young women”, comments Stella in NME.

Also, as young black women they are very clear about their position and they know how essential it is to have your own voice in the music industry: “As three young black women, one thing that is important when you sign with a label and you have to do what people say is to remember to be strong. We will not be pushed or accept another person’s decision without believing in it. Know that you can say no and do what you truly believe in, and you will succeed.”, Reneé explained in NME.

In the United Kingdom they have already stood out and we only have to wait a short time for them to do so in the rest of the world. Jade and Leigh-Anne from Little Mix and SZA have already set their sights on this British trio. FLO promises to become one of the girlbands of this new decade which has only just begun and from LOS40 we do not want to lose track of it. Take note and listen to their first EP, The Lead!
