They present a concert in New York with the music of ‘Frida, El Musical’

Monterrey Mexico – To Frida Kahlo suffered that his health was affected by a tram accident, many already know it, for this reason, Jaime Lozano is determined to present in Frida, The Musical to the happy woman who faced challenges and triumphed, a play that is scheduled to open on Broadway in 2024 at the latest.

Inspired by the book “Frida Íntima”, by Isolda Pinedo Kahlo, niece of the Mexican painter, Lozano already has eight songs from the play ready, which were presented at a concert led in recent days by the conductor from Monterrey in the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center in New York.

“We don’t just want to see the suffering side of Frida, but to see everything that her humanity means. She is not a legend, she is not a myth, she is not a stranger to us, she is a woman very close to us, ”said Lozano. “Sometimes there are many clichés and legends around her, we only see the side suffered by the problems that she went through and we forget that she was a three-dimensional human being who had joys, challenges and triumphs.”

The artists Mauricio Martínez, Florencia Cuenca, Paloma Aisenberg, Krystina Alabado, Danny Bolero, Robi Hager, Mario Tadeo and Sylvia Sáenz gave voice to the themes of Frida, The Musical, whose arrangements are by Lozano and Pavel Cal.

The concert, which lasted an hour, was attended by 15 musicians and eight singers, who saw the Lincoln Center full, including, Lozano said, about 400 people stayed outside the venue.

Various genres such as huapango, bolero and mariachi embraced songs inspired by the wife of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera.

Among the attendees, the presence of the painter, Mara Romero, daughter of Isolda Pinedo Kahlo, and her granddaughter Mara de Anda stood out.

Pinedo Kahlo was the daughter of Cristina, Frida’s sister, who as a child lived with her aunt and Diego Rivera.

“They were very happy, delighted. Mara told me that Frida’s greatest characteristic is that she was a congruent woman because what she thought is what she did. We started the show with an organ grinder and many people were moved, Mara and her daughter were crying because we also started the musical with a song in Spanish, something that is not seen on Broadway and that as a Mexican I am doing my fight so that our history, our language reaches big stages”, said Lozano.

Between song and song, the Mexican actress Sylvia Sáenz read passages from the book “Frida Intima”, material on which the musical will be based.

“What follows will be the lectern readings, workshops, and we will surely do another concert because the one at Lincoln Center was a success because people were left out,” added the royal director.

For Frida, The Musical, Lozano estimated, more than 20 songs are needed, of which only eight are ready, one of them “Wings”, inspired by Kahlo’s emblematic phrase: “Feet, what do I want them for, if I have wings for to fly”.
