The XXXVIII La Antigua de Zumarraga Music Cycle will offer this month five concerts with free admission

The concerts will be at seven thirty in the afternoon in the Hermitage of Antigua and there will be a free bus from Correos de Zumarraga

The XXXVIII La Antigua de Zumarraga Music Cycle will offer four concerts this month, with free admission, upon withdrawal of invitation, at the Hermitage of Antigua on September 4, 11, 18 and 25. In addition, on October 2 he will perform at the Igartubeiti Euskal Barrokensemble. The concerts of this initiative, which is organized by the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the Zumarraga City Council, will be at seven thirty in the afternoon in the Hermitage of Antigua and there will be a free bus from Correos de Zumarraga at seven minus four.

At a press conference, the Director of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Mari Jose Telleria, accompanied by the Provincial Councilor for Culture, Harkaitz Millán, and the Mayor of Zumarraga, Mikel Serrano, considered «magnificent news that this music cycle, which is a reference in Gipuzkoa, can be carried out ».

The Musica de la Antigua cycle began in 1984 and was one of the first in Gipuzkoa together with Deba. Millán and Serrano have stressed that “one more year the quality and variety are once again assured”.

“Added to the quality of the program is the beauty of the environment and the exceptional acoustics of the Antigua hermitage, which makes these concerts an unbeatable experience,” they added. Serrano stressed that this year “will be the 38th uninterrupted edition of the cycle”, something that fills with “pride” and “more so in a year of pandemic like this, since in addition to highlighting the cultural heritage of Zumarraga as it is the Hermitage of Antigua, shows that culture is safe ».

As for the program, on the 4th there will be a ‘Musical tour through the life of Saint Ignatius’ with the accordionist Ander Tellería; flutist Anna Margules; and Tetraphilla Ensemble. On September 11, the pianist Mario Prisuelos and the Sigma Project Quartet will perform; on September 18 the Musbika Ensemble; and on the 25th the guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas.

In addition, on October 2 the Euskal Barrokensemble will perform in Igartubeiti at six. Taking into account the situation generated by Covid-19, the capacity will be limited so, in order to attend the concerts, it will be necessary to collect the corresponding invitation. Interested persons should request the invitation at the house of culture the week before each concert (9.00-14.00 hours) or write to the email ‘kultura@zumarraga.eus’ from Monday to Wednesday.

In the event that the applications exceed the available invitations, these will be awarded by lottery. Each person may collect a maximum of two invitations, one of the invitations being nominative. Entrance to the concert will be allowed from 6.30 pm.
