The rise of Quevedo: from the Canary Islands to the top of Billboard and Spotify – Music Industry

Quevedo’s collaboration with Bizarrap, «Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 52«, is currently number 1 on Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US

In the last two years, the Canarian rapper has released music, including the first songs that made him a notorious local artist, such as “Cayó La Noche”, “No Me Digas Nada” and “Universitaria”.

But it was his freestyle session with Argentinian producer Bizarrap that catapulted him to worldwide success. The “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 52”, released earlier this month, is currently #1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US, with 88.3 million streams, a 38% week-over-week increase, according to Luminate.

Additionally, the song is only the second all-Spanish song to top the Global 200 in the chart’s two-year history, following Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dákiti” in 2020.

The artist told Billboard: “My music is now heard all over the world and it’s something that, honestly, is just amazing,” adds Quevedo, who says it was Bizarre who approached him through Instagram.

“He told me that he liked what I was doing and that he hoped we could make music together. The timing was perfect because she was actually in Argentina recording ‘Si Quiero Frontear’ with Duki. So we decided to do the shoot at that time.”

The recording session was “super normal,” he says. “What is not normal is what has happened to the song since it came out. It seemed like such a normal day in the studio, nothing out of the ordinary. We recorded the song and then spent the day laughing and watching videos on YouTube.”

In Youtube, “Vol. 52” has almost 100 million views and, in Spotify reached number 1 on its Global Top 50 Chartfor which Quevedo was named artist Global RADAR Spotify, which highlights emerging global artists.

“I am very happy with everything that is happening with the song, all the support from the beginning. But I’m not obsessed with achievements, I just want to enjoy the moment.”

Quevedo believes that there are a number of factors that contributed to making the session a world number 1 song: “First of all, everything Bizarrap touches turns to gold. Also, the song is perfect for summer and festivals, and people can sing and dance to it. Also, I’m a new artist, so I think people are intrigued by what I’m doing.”
