The participant of ‘La Voz Senior’ who moved with his story: music helps him against Parkinson’s

The Senior Voice kicked off a new season in 2022, opening the door for several aging talents looking to shine and make it big in music. Different participants managed to advance in the first chapters of the program, stealing the gaze of the faithful viewers who enjoy this kind of competition.

Viewers were struck by all the stories that appeared at the beginning of this new edition, since the format gave older adults the opportunity to exploit their art and the voices they consolidated. Applause and praise filled the atmosphere of the recording set during the blind auditions, where each contestant fought to be part of one of the teams.

One of the participants who caught the attention of the coaches and the public was José Inocencio Trejos González, who performed ‘The ship of oblivion when he went on stage. The man, born in Cali, gave a nostalgic version of José José’s musical classic, exposing all his vocal potential in each of the song’s parts.

The contestant, who is affectionately called ‘Chencho’, aroused all kinds of reactions among the spectators with the emotional audition he gave on the diamond of the famous reality show. Her ease in hitting the notes and her versatility in her expressions were key for the jurors to turn around and fight for her voice.

Andrés Cepeda assured that it was a pleasure to hear the participant sing, because that song had beautiful and special lyrics. The artist expressed his joy when he saw that his teammates did not block him from turning, because he wanted a lot to recruit “Chencho” in his team.

However, what caught the attention of the curious were the statements that the contestant gave when asked if he had dedicated his whole life to music. José Inocencio pointed out that his family saw this as something of “drunks”, so he waited until he retired as a teaching professional and trained his artistic facet.

The same way, The Colombian revealed that he was a Parkinson’s patient, so he was fulfilling a dream and the music was helping him to continue on his feet.

“When I said that I wanted to dedicate myself to music they told me that ‘that’s for drunks’, but now that I’ve retired, I indulge myself and I’m fulfilling a dream because I’m a Parkinson’s patient and music is what has me standing here ”, said the 72-year-old singer.

Cepeda spoke again and assured that this case was very beautiful to admire, since it reflected the reality of music and the help it could provide to anyone. However, the singer asked the man from Cali how this art influenced his illness and how it worked for him to get ahead.

“It’s like my therapy. Parkinson’s, within its modalities, is different for each person and ends with the voiceand I’m fighting and I don’t want it to end”, said ‘Chencho’ before the jury and those present on the set.

These words unleashed a shower of applause in the place, as well as positive and nice comments regarding the talent that floods the teacher.

“You represent in every way what is the image of The Senior Voice (…) The fact that with everything and with forecasts of health situations you are standing in front and you can see how people have turned around for you”, he said Kany García, pointing out that the fight between the coaches was going to be good to get him to choose them.

José Inocencio closed his audition by making a couplet to decide which famous person he would go to the competition with.
