The new release that arises from the music of the Colombian Pacific

The Pacific music scene in Colombia expands again thanks to the Discos Pacífico platform with the recent release of Rumba pa’ Goza by the group Ruca and El Quinde de Barbacoas.

The release vindicates the indigenous sounds and musical instruments of the Pacific, an area affected by the conflict and where its communities try to reconcile with their territories through artistic expressions.

“We recorded an album in one of the best studios in Colombia, we feel in an excellent environment compared to other experiences we have had. We believe that this work will have an exceptional production and will be so beautiful that many people will be able to enjoy the music of Barbacoas at a national and international level”, assured Ruth Elena Cabezas, better known as Ruca, in a press release.

La Ruca, in addition to being one of the most representative singers of the territory, is considered by her community as a teacher who keeps a cultural legacy of ancestral knowledge. She is also described as a strong-willed and leading woman who, they say, has written more than 1,000 songs.

“I am part of the legacy because I come from a family of musicians and composers, my family is made up of singers and it was the inspiration to continue with this process, which is of vital importance, so far I am happy with everything we have received”, confirms Ruca .

The promotion of music from the Pacific as a form of recognition for vulnerable populations, impacted by violence at some point, is part of the philosophy of the Discos del Pacífico platform created by the record label Llorona Records and the Territories of Opportunity program of the Agency. of the United States for Development (USAID).

“We firmly believe that the cultural and creative industry is one of the main axes for the promising development of our South Pacific and we bet on music as the driving force behind this entire model that is generating employment and development from culture”, pointed out Jorge Amézquita, technical coordinator of the creative and cultural industry strategy of the South Pacific for USAID’s Territories of Opportunity program.

Discos Pacífico, meanwhile, describes itself as a platform that seeks to connect the South Pacific with the possibilities of the new music industry and “a creative laboratory where a music industry is built that responds to the territory, its people and a development distinct”.

Bejuco, Afro Legends, the Changó Group and Semblanzas del Río Guapi were the first groups to join this musical family.

Ruca and the quinde from Barbacoas, Verito Asprilla, MA Studio and ZooMusic are now the new ‘signings’ of the label.
