The IER takes “concerts-rituals” to five Riojan cemeteries

The Institute of Riojan Studies (IER), within the program of activities for the Xacobeo year, organizes a concert-ritual, created in different sessions between today and Sunday the 19th by the artist Antonino Nieto Rodríguez, and entitled ‘Contrario clockwise. Verses and songs of recognition and tribute to those one day alive ‘.

It is “a symbolic embrace between the living and the absent”, in the words of the author himself, who explains that “it has been a while, it still is, very hard, and where citizens need to reconnect with themselves and with those of yours who are no longer by your side. They could not say goodbye, or even give each other a last look, a word of love, a handshake … Now or never: let’s give them the possibility of that reunion, of that symbolic embrace from emotion and truth.

To do this, to make reality and satisfy that need of those still alive in communion with those who are no longer there, the artist has created this tribute in which great lyrical artists take part (María Rodríguez, soprano; Antonio Torres, baritone; Sergio Kuhlmann, pianist), a dancer (Liliana Mestizo) for that symbolic embrace between the living and the absent, an actress (Charo Gabella) and Antonino Nieto Rodríguez himself.

All clothed in a wardrobe created by María Lafuente. In the background, recorded voices of children and children’s songs will be heard. Also, photographs will be seen that relatives bring to their projection and have those who are no longer present. An agora, made up of the performers and all those present at the event, will recite at certain times verses of homage and recognition to those who were once alive.

The rituals will take place in that place where eternity shapes the day-to-day life of those who are no longer there: in cemeteries. Specifically in the cemeteries of five municipalities in La Rioja (Nalda, municipal cemetery; Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Margubete chapter cemetery; Alfaro, municipal cemetery; Navarrete, municipal cemetery; Haro, municipal cemetery). All this organized and sponsored by the Institute of Rioja Studies as it is an official activity approved by the Xacobeo Council 2021.

The times and dates are as follows:

Nalda. Wednesday, September 15, 6.30 p.m. In the municipal cemetery.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Thursday September 16, 6 p.m. In the Chapter Cemetery of Margubete.
