The concert “Europe and Latin America: dialogues between academic and popular guitar” at the Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Córdoba hosts the concert “Europe and Latin America: dialogues between academic and popular guitar” that closes the Guitar Festival, organized by the Municipal Institute of Performing Arts, IMAE, of the Córdoba City Council, as reported by the delegate of Culture and Historical Heritage, Cristina Casanueva. It is an acoustic guitar concert by Mencía Ortiz and Lucía Durowhich will take place on July 9 at 10:00 p.m., with free admission until full capacity is reached.

The delegate of Culture has highlighted the “participation of the Board in the great cultural events of Córdoba, with other institutions and administrations”, as is the case of the celebration of this concert of the Patios de Guitarra cycle in the patio II of the Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo, headquarters of the Archaeological Museum. Cristina Casanueva has pointed out the “relationship of this space with the various spheres of culture, in this case to become a place to enjoy music.”

The delegate has highlighted the “collaboration of the Board in this 41st edition of the internationally recognized Guitar Festival and the support through the Patios de Guitarra initiative to bring music to all kinds of audiences and stages”. In collaboration with the Rafael Orozco Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba, “it highlights young and new performers in different corners of the city, one of them the Archaeological Museum”, points out the delegate.

The concert will be opened by Lucía Duro, born in Jaén. At the age of 9, she began her musical training at the “Ramón Garay” Professional Conservatory of Music, under the teaching of Lourdes García. During these years she received master classes from guitarists such as Antonio Duro or Javier Riba. In 2019, she accesses higher education in music at the “Rafael Orozco” Superior Conservatory of Music, where she studies her first two years of career under the tutelage of Javier Riba.

Currently, it is in its third year of training under the direction of Pablo Menéndez. At this stage she also participates in courses taught by Marco Smaili and Marco Tamayo, two great contemporary concert artists.

In a complementary and parallel way, Lucía Duro obtains the certificate that certifies her training as a music therapist with an excellent rating. In addition, she combines her student work with the teacher, by teaching the basic principles of music and the guitar to people of different educational levels.

The artist will perform: F. TÁRREGA: Preludes 1 and 5, INÉS BADALO: Toru and M. GIULIANI: Sonata Op. 15 C MM.

For his part, Mencía Ortiz will carry out the second part. Born in Granada, she began her music studies at the Antonio Lorenzo de Motril Professional Conservatory of Music. She studied cello for five years with Isidoro Aparicio and Alberto Martos and began her guitar studies with Rafael López. She later moved to Córdoba to study at the Rafael Orozco Conservatory with Javier Riba and she combines her studies with composition and popular music classes with the composer José Luis Merlín. She is currently a student of Javier Molina. She has received masterclasses from great guitarists such as David Russell, Leo Brouwer and Marco Smaili.

This artist will perform LEO BROUWER: Simple Study XVIII, QUIQUE SINESI: Open Sky, JOSÉ LUIS MERLIN: Suite of Memory and MARÍA LUISA ANIDO: Northern Air.

The concert will end with a duet performance by the two guitarists of the work Der Ball by composer JK Mertz.
