The Granada City Orchestra commemorates the centenary of the cante jondo contest that Manuel de Falla Y Federico Garcia Lorca, among other intellectuals of the time, organized to restore artistic dignity to the flamenco genre and restore its most intimate and pure expressive core. A commemoration that the OCG also wants to extend to its younger audience this Saturday, November 5 at 12:00 in the Manuel de Falla Auditorium.

From Antequeruela to Sacromonte, the first family concert of the season, is configured as a concert that aims to be a space for creation and union between the historical and the popular through current proposals. With flamenco as the common thread, bringing boys and girls, young people and families closer to connecting with the live flamenco experience and fostering respect for this art as an important element that transmits culture, are some of the fundamental objectives of this project. Inspiration and tradition in an innovative pedagogical proposal for children and adults. This family concert has its corresponding 12 educational concerts (to be held at the end of November and again in January 2023), which will be attended by more than 12,000 students (between 3rd and 6th grade of primary education).

In the concert it is performed From Antequeruela… (brief intro of Fail) by Manuel Bust; Popular (adapted from Esther Crucible); Polo, cane, soleares (adapted from Esther Crisol and Luis Mariano); siguiriya and cabal (of Pendaripen and goblin2012) by Manuel Busto; bright Capriccio (Aragonese Jack) of Mikhail Glinka (1804-1857); joys and songs (of Pendaripen and goblin2012) by Manuel Busto; Spanish dance (of Swan Lake1877) of Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky (1840-1877); fandango (adapted by Esther Crisol and Luis Mariano); caged (Of Granaína and zapateado2020) by Manuel Busto and To Sacromonte (Cap and Fly).

The performers will be Esther Crisol, original idea, script and cante; Monica Iglesias, dancer; Luis Mariano, guitar and Manuel Busto, director.

From Antequeruela to Sacromonte

The process of development and enrichment that flamenco is currently undergoing is allowing a positive perception and appreciation of this art. Sign of identity of a people, it has managed to be extended to the most diverse disciplines.

Proof of this is the immense admiration that Manuel de Falla felt for this genre. His concern to discover new fields and his inspiration in the Sacromonte gypsies themselves led to an enthusiastic desire to protect our most representative heritage.

The heartbeat of flamenco has been present in many corners and vital moments: the family, the tavern, the singing cafes or the theaters, are some of those privileged places that have enjoyed its magic and have witnessed its evolution.

We invite you to take a walk through the origins of flamenco, starting from Antequeruela, the creative refuge of the Cadiz composer, where so many meetings took place to share concerns with his contemporaries, going up Calle Real until you reach the Polinario tavern and finish admiring the Valparaíso valley, where Sacromonte is located, whose identity was forged thanks to the passage of so much cultural wealth.
