The idea that members of Metallica they are true fans of music, regardless of it being their job, it is something that the band has made clear on countless occasions, either with references in statements or directly with the many versions that they have shaped in their career, and one of these versions has been a curious protagonist of the anecdote that they have told Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Y Cedric Bixler-Zavalathe minds that shape The Mars Voltaabout the song that Metallica ended up covering from their repertoire.

The interview that both musicians recently gave to space Apple Music 1 by Zane Lowe It was the scene of a great anecdote in which we discovered Metallica as followers of The Mars Volta, and a meeting between both bands had an old song by Omar and Cedric as the center of attention, “Inertiatic ESP”. It is the vocalist who begins the story: “We met them in New Zealand. They came to our concert and said, ‘Are you going to play this song?’ we should play it for him at least.” But we didn’t play it. We were very stubborn about where we were. It was stuff from the early records. We were like… we’re at this point now. We understand that people like it, but we’re very selfish in that sense. But it was great meeting them. It was like, wow!”

The guitarist identifies that it is “Inertiatic ESP”, a song from the 2003 album ‘De-Loused In The Comatorium’and remember that he was in a rehearsal of Metallica in which they covered it: “Yes. Do you know how they rehearse or just improvise before going on stage? They played at the stadium that was a short distance from my house when I lived in Mexico. They played right at the Estadio de los Tecos, I think it was, I’m sorry, Guadalajara , if I was wrong… They’re very particular about their stuff… But then I went over there, got in there and they invited me to go behind there and then I could see them whispering something. That’s when they played ‘Inertiatic’. Yeah. It was really cool. I was honored to be back there because it was their private moment before they went onstage. And the fact that they invited me to be in their space was really beautiful to me. Because we all grew up with it (Metallica).”

Metallica has been one of the leading bands in the new number of La Heavy, 444in which Ozzy Osbourne has returned to take over the leading role accompanied by Iron Maiden, Megadeth, The Rasmus or Alice Cooper like other featured content.
