After a couple of years of forced hiatus, 2022 sees all the big festivals, which means that a glorious season is expected for this type of event with people eager to meet their favorite bands again, free of restrictions and masks. Here is a review of ten of the proposals that we find most interesting.
The best Festivals 2022
The earliest on the list arrives in less than a month with a line-up featuring two Britpop legends, such as Suede and Jarvis Cocker, who comes with his project Jarv Is…, in addition to the fundamental Slowdive, danceable electronics and funk of Jungle, the post punk of Shame or the jangle rock of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, who have been presenting a new album. From the national side, the two most popular proposals will be two fixed in many of the festivals of this 2022, Rigoberta Bandini, on the back of her successful failure with the Eurovision selection, and Carolina Durante with a new album under her arm.
Date: From May 19 to 21
Poster (selection): Suede, Slowdive, Jungle, Jarv Is…, Kevin Morby, Sen Senra, Rigoberta Bandini, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Carolina Durante, Shame, Biznaga, Alizzz, Kings Of Convenience, Cariño, Kokoshca, Putochinomaricón, La Plata

Before next year it begins to be held simultaneously in Barcelona and Madrid, the undisputed king of Spanish festivals once again boasts a kilometric lineup, as full of big names as small gems. Primavera can boast of having legends such as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Pavement, Massive Attack or the Strokes, stars such as Dua Lipa, Charli XCX or C Tangana, and a pulse with current affairs unmatched by the rest of the festivals, suffice it to say that the authors of my five favorite albums so far this year will perform at the Barcelona festival, Black Country, New Road (who will have to figure out what life is like without their singer), Big Thief, Wet Leg, Beach House and Fontaines DC . A luxury from the headliner to the most remote of its lineup.

Tangana / Carolina Durante / Charli XCX / Cigarettes After Sex / Dinosaur Jr. / DJ Shadow / Kacey Musgraves / Massive Attack / Pavement / Rina Sawayama / Sharon Van Etten / Tame Impala / Turnstile / Wet Leg / Yo la Tengo / Amaia / Beck / Bikini Kill / Caribou / Earl Sweatshirt / Fontaines DC / Jamie xx / Jessica Pratt / King GIzzard & the Lizard Wizard / Little Simz / Parquet Courts / Shellac / The National / The Strokes / Weyes Blood / Bauhaus / Beach House / Black Country, New Road / Caroline Polachek / Disclosure / Gorillaz / Idles / Jamila Woods / King Krule / María José Llergo / Mavis Staples / Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds / Porridge Radio / Shame / Slowthai / Tyler , the Creator / Big Thief / Dry Cleaning / Dua Lipa / Khruangbin / Slowdive / Squid / Clairo / Courtney Barnett / Japanese Breakfast / Massive Attack / MIA / Rigoberta Bandini / Run the Jewels / The Jesus and Mary Chain / The Strokes / Triángulo de Bizarre Love / Phoenix / Genesis Owusu / Goldie / Jessie Ware / Megan Thee Stallion / Mogwai / Rolling Blackouts Costal Fever / Sky Ferreira / Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Others that have come back in style have been the Noches del Botánico, which is not a festival as such, but a cycle of concerts, but whose line-up can rival that of most of the scene. The Vitorian festival has had to deal with the cancellation of one of its great figures, Brian Wilson, but it has achieved a very competent line-up with punk legends, such as Patti Smith, and country legends, such as Emmylou Harris, as well as one of the best rock bands of the entire 21st century, like Drive-By Truckers.

Tangana stands out, one of the new incarnations of Niño de Elche, this time with Ylia + Banda “la valenciana” and the sophistication of María Arnal and Marcel Bagés.

The Bilbao festival will fight again on the same dates with Mad Cool and it does so with the return of the essential LCD Soundsystem by James Murphy, the infallible hits of Pet Shop Boys, the sharp rap of MIA, the choruses of the Killers, the sophisticated soul of Moses Sumney or one of the spearheads of reggaeton, J Balvin. We don’t know if, coinciding with Cruilla, Balvin and Residente will take advantage of their festival time in Spain to continue their juicy ‘beef’.

Andalusia Big Festival by Mad Cool 2022
The people of Mad Cool have made a strong commitment to creating this mega-festival in Malaga in which they will feature the return to the stage of Rage Against The Machine as their main claim. The great success has been to bring them together with Run The Jewels, one of the best groups in current rap with which Zach De La Rocha has regularly collaborated, it could be a hoot to see the Rage singer take the stage with Killer Mike and El-P to perform ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)’ or ‘Just ‘. On the other hand, they have names with a lot of pull like Muse or Jamiroquai, although the most interesting comes from other sides, like the presence of the great Michael Kiwanuka or that couple of essential groups from Granada that are 091 and Los Planetas.
Date: From September 8 to 10
Poster (selection): Rage Against The Machine, Muse, Jamiroquai, Vetusta Morla, Biffy Claro, Years & Years, Michael Kiwanuka, Paolo Nutini, Sterophonics, Run The Jewels, Los Planetas, Kurt Vile and The Violators, Glass Animals, Kevin Morby, 091, Lucy Dacus , Los Zigarros, Sports Team, Yard Act, Morgan

Mad Cool Sunset
Taking advantage of a large part of the groups from the previous festival, Mad Cool continues to prepare for the competition with Primavera with the creation of this one-day festival in Madrid with a most interesting line-up, in which that duo RATM and Run The Jewels are joined by things as interesting as the calm rock of Kurt Vile, the class of Lucy Dacus or one of the funniest groups of the new British post rock band, Yard Act, who present their remarkable debut, ‘The Overload’, with great songs like the title or ‘Pour Another’.
Date: September, 10th
Poster (selection): Rage Against the Machine, Biffy Clyro, Glass Animals, Stereophonics, Run the Jewels, Kurt Vile & The Violators, Lucy Dacus, Los Zigarros, Belako, Sports Team, Yard Act
