After the singer Shakira rejected the last offer that the prosecution had presented to her to avoid her possible imprisonmentall this as a result of the accusations of tax fraud that weigh on her, this body has formalized its request to the court that will decide on the case, which has seen the light this Friday.

The public ministry asks for eight years in prison and a fine of 23.8 million euros for the Colombian interpreter, a punishment that will be reflected in the oral trial opening order that will be issued in the coming days. The artist could still accept the agreement offered by the prosecution, which would imply her admission of guilt, but in any case she would have to appear before the judge to corroborate it.

Bearing in mind that the interpreter’s lawyers fully trust her innocence and the good work of ordinary justiceas is clear from the statement they shared this Wednesday to confirm that the singer-songwriter would face the next oral hearings without hesitation, it seems unlikely that there will be a radical change of position in the coming hours.

According to the Spanish Tax Agency, the pop star evaded the payment of 14.5 million euros to the treasury through a network of companies located in different tax havens. She maintains, however, that her management of taxes was perfectly legal and that, although not in Spain, she paid everything she owed in the territories where it corresponded.
