Shakira could be sued by Florinda Meza for dancing in ‘I congratulate you’

In the first semester of the year, the artist from Barranquilla, Shakira premiered her single ‘Te congratulations’ in the company of Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro. Quickly, the video with which the song premiered on the YouTube platform drew attention to the unique choreography that both artists danced.

(Do not miss: Shakira: the gesture of support that Antonella Roccuzzo sent her).

But now, almost four months after its premiere, the Mexican press has revealed that the Colombian artist could go through a new legal dispute, as some versions indicate that Florinda Meza -the wife of the late Gómez Bolaños, creator of ‘El Chavo del 8’ and other well-known productions- would be looking at a lawsuit against Shakira, because he allegedly copied a step of the character.

In a part of ‘I congratulate you’, Shakira He dances like a robot, with rigid movements that some users on social networks have come to compare with the “garrotera” that he gave “Chavo” in situations of risk or intimidation.

(Also: Shakira: this is the Japanese version of “I congratulate you” that is all the rage in networks).

So far, neither party has confirmed or denied that a lawsuit will be filed; however, some Mexican media, including the “Diario Nuevo Día”, revealed that the widow of “Chespirito” would have realized the similarities and could proceed with legal action.

(We suggest: ‘I congratulate you’, a song by Shakira, breaks a new record for reproductions).

The truth is that the choreography in recent months gained relevance in different social networks including TikTok, where different users have imitated the steps and other national and international celebrities have made versions with the song as a base. On YouTube it reaches more than 299 billion views.

In that sense, Shakira, who is going through a separation process with soccer player Gerard Piqué and, also, it has been pointed out before the courts of Spain for alleged tax fraud, it could face a lawsuit from Meza, if it confirms that this is its claim.

Some people, in social networks, affirm that it is not the first time that the woman from Barranquilla has been accused of plagiarism, since in the past singles such as ‘La Bicicleta’, ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ and the World Cup song, ‘Waka Waka’, they were also judged for the same issue.
