COVID has changed the way of living performances: invitations, seats, masks … Here are all the keys to mateas appointments with music

This year’s are going to be
San Mateo festivities different. Because of the cursed coronavirus, many of the characteristic events of these celebrations (tastings, rocket launch, fireworks …) will have to wait. They will not be able to celebrate. COVID has eliminated these appointments from the festive program, but there are others that, such as the village of Asterix and Obélix, resist and remain on the festive calendar. A clear example is the concerts.

Are there going to be concerts? Yes, but … Are they going to be how we remember them before the pandemic? No not at all. Neither will they be the same before, since invitations will be needed to enjoy them, nor later, since the way of living them has changed. For this reason, and so that those who want to go to them can do so with knowledge of the facts, here is a small guide to answer the question: What do I have to do if I want to go to a San Mateo concert in the Plaza del City Hall.

What actions are planned?

DJ Alexander Som, Hombres G and Nil Moliner

Traditionally, the San Mateo festivities start in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento with the usual ‘Logroñeses, Logroñesas …’ of the mayor and the grape pickers and the roar of the rocket with which the festivities begin. Years ago, that appointment was conducive for young and old to fill up on flour, eggs, soda and other various foods. For some time until 2019 (the parties were suspended in 2020 due to COVID), the rocket is clean and this year due to the limitations of the pandemic and to avoid crowds, it has been chosen to dispense with that act.

Either way, on September 18 (Saturday) the official program will start and one of the main protagonists of that day will be the
DJ Alexander Som. In previous years, a DJ (Carlos Jean) was in charge of animating the rocket and this time the formula is repeated but with another name and without a chupinazo in between. His performance in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento will start at 5:00 p.m.

The other two highlights of the musical program will arrive on September 20 and 21. On Monday it will be the turn of some ‘classics’ of Spanish pop:
Men G. In the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, mythical themes such as ‘Give me back my girl’, ‘The attack of the crocodile girls’ or ‘Venezia’ will resound from 10:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, for his part, one of the most successful soloists today will take the stage:
Nil Moliner. Rhythm and good vibes for the night of the big day of the Mateas parties (10:30 p.m.).

The invitations

A maximum of three per person

We already have the concert program in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Have you chosen which ones you want to go to? Well, it is not worth showing up there half an hour before the first song. No. That has changed. You need an invite for any of the three. It is another of the novelties that COVID brings.

Thus, the invitations will be made available to residents and visitors of the Riojan capital a few hours before each concert at the access to the Municipal Auditorium.

– For Alexander Som DJ, invitations can be collected from 1:00 p.m. on September 18.

– For Hombres G, they can be withdrawn from 5:00 p.m. on September 20

– For Nil Moliner, they will be available from 5:00 p.m. on September 21.

And how are those invitations delivered? The capacity of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento will be for 993 people (chairs and stands) and to obtain one of these places you must go to the Auditorium and purchase a maximum of three invitations per person, which will be delivered in order of arrival at the aforementioned point of delivery.

During the concert

Seated, with mask, safety distance ..

The way of living concerts has changed with the coronavirus. We must eliminate, at least for the moment, that image of hundreds of people huddled together screaming and jumping to the tunes of their favorite singers. That is no longer the case and in San Mateo it will be verified.

– In the first place, all those attending the concerts will have to remain seated in the chairs arranged for this purpose in which the safety distance will be maintained.

– The capacity, when going with invitations, will be limited and all those present must make use of the masks.

– It will not be allowed to eat, drink, or smoke.

– The chairs will be arranged in a specific way and this cannot be changed, unless authorized by the customer service staff.

– Seats cannot be reserved for people who have not accessed the venue.

– Both to enter and to leave the square you will have to preserve the safety distance.

– Once you leave the square, you will not be able to access it again, except due to force majeure and after having informed the authorized personnel.

Other concerts

Until full capacity

The City Council concerts will not be the only musical events on the program. There will also be DJs in different squares of the city: J. Beren, September 19 in the Plaza de Los Lirios; Juan Morte, on September 21 in the Chiribitas park; Álex Melero, on September 22 at the Picos de Urbión park; and David Mateo on September 23 at the San Adrián park. All of them will act from 7:00 p.m.

The festivals will return to El Espolón on September 19 by the Orquesta Pasarela, which will perform two shows of an hour and a half each. The first at 7:30 p.m. and the second at 10:30 p.m.

In addition, rap will take the floor with the Battle of Masters on Monday, September 20 at 6:00 p.m. on the Paseo del Espolón and nostalgia will also be present from the hand of the group Los Átomos. They will perform on September 22 at El Espolón in two shows (7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.).

To all these shows we must add different concerts that the Logroño Music Band will offer in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (September 19, 1:00 p.m.), in the Chiribitas Square (September 22, 1:00 p.m.) and in the Paseo del Espolón (September 23, 8:00 p.m.); and the Parrilla Slow Special Edition Festival, which will offer nine concerts by young groups representing musical styles as diverse as jazz, rap, soul or trap, among others, which will take place in Parliament Square (19, 20 and September 21 at 9:00 p.m.).

For all these concerts, no invitation will be required, but the number of attendees will also be limited. People will be able to attend until the available capacity is completed.
