Riccardo Mutti returns to Chicago in September to begin his 13th season of artistic collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to open the 2022/23 season, the 132nd for the Orchestra and Muti’s last season as music director. His three-week residency in September and October includes three subscription concert programs and the annual Symphony Ball Gala concert.

The pianist yefim bronfman joins Muti and the CSO to interpret the Piano Concerto No. 1 of Brahms in a program that also includes the premiere in the United States of solemn prelude of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and the Second Symphony of Tchaikovskywhich will mean, in the session on September 27, Muti’s 500th concert with the CSO since his debut in 1973 (September 22, 23 and 27).

Muti, Bronfman and the CSO will also perform the Piano Concerto No. 22 of Mozart the 24th September as part of the Symphony Ball concert during the first weekend of the new season.

Finally, Muti and the CSO interpret the Fifth Symphony of Prokofiev in a program with Symphony No. 39 of Mozart and the Overture of Rossini for The journey to Reims (September 29 to October 1). In the last week of the fall residency, Muti and the CSO present Pictures at an exhibition of Mussorgsky (from 6 to 8 October).
