Review: Colombian superstar Karol G offers a spectacular show in Fresno

A fan went into labor and gave birth during Karol G’s performance at the Save Mart Center on Tuesday.

Most of the crowd in the near-packed venue missed the moment, instead screaming at high decibels (also dancing and generally freaking out) during the two-hour concert, which is part of the strip love tour of the Colombian singer .

The singer, however, didn’t miss out, as she visited the new mother at Saint Agnes Medical Center after the show.

In photos and videos posted from the hospital, he wrote: “Anahí, the baby, is incredibly healthy and beautiful!!! Her mommy, too.

“Me too. Speechless”.

Karol G has been performing since she was 14 years old, and has built a fan base by collaborating with Latin stars like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee and Ozuna. He also did a song with Nicki Minaj. He has racked up a long list of Latin Grammy nominations (and wins).

Rolling Stone called it reggaeton superstar” that transcends gender. Pitchfork said it is “an unstoppable force in Latin music.”

This year, she was one of the first Latinas to feature prominently on the Coachella main stage lineup.

With the Strip Love tour, Karol proves that she has true pop star credentials.

Aside from the size of the crowd—which was announced as a sellout before the show and sold for $400 each—Tuesday night’s concert had all the makings of a grand pop tour. Laser lights and flames, numerous costume changes for Karol and her supporting group of dancers, and some important moving parts.

For the song “El Makinon”, Karol floated above the stage and then into the audience in a teal Ferrari, with the license plate “Bichota”, for her 2020 hit.

Later, a literal moon came out to shine on the audience.

well deserved recognition

Doriam Romero is a fan of Karol G, although her friend would say that she is being humble.

“It is a great influencer of Karol G”, he says. Look @doriamaromero.

Romero has traveled the world and has seen the singer in concert some 25 times, including in Karol’s hometown of Medellin, Colombia.

She drove from Los Angeles for the Tuesday night show, the 14th time she’s seen Karol on the Strip Love tour. She spent the entire show singing, and sometimes shouting, Karol’s words towards the stage.

The fact that a Colombian singer can tour on this scale and sell out stadiums across the United States is proof of the importance of the Spanish language, says Romero, and that Latin music is finally getting the recognition it deserves. deserves.

The same goes for Karol G.

Romero remembers seeing the singer as an opening act, when people didn’t even stand up while she played. If we compare that with the public of the show on Tuesday night, it is clear that Karol is having a good time. Which makes Romeo happy.

“I’m very proud of her”.

About that “strip love”

The tour is called Strip Love, and to some extent the concert played out like a full-length strip show. No one got naked (not even close), but there were plenty of dance breaks, and the amount of body movement and twirling (and pole dancing) would certainly provoke the prudish.

However, the show managed not to come across as over the top or exploitative.

At one point, members of the public were brought up on stage to compete in a dance contest. For some reason, the guy who flipped didn’t win. It ended up being a tie, with two fans taking home “one thousand dollars” which they carried in a briefcase like in a “Deal or No Deal” clip.

What’s coming…

Astute fans — like Romero — will have noticed the colorful cartoon that appeared on the video screen as fans left the stadium. It’s a hint, Romero says, of what fans can expect soon.

“It’s an Easter egg for their next album.”

Other observations

  • Karol seems to innately connect with the music and is able to draw the audience in with a single glance, usually a sly and knowing smile. She struts onstage and the audience screams. When she caps off the downbeat with a jump and a flick of her hair, the audience is right there with her, screaming some more.
  • It was nice to see that Karol had a full band. They were somewhat hidden in an offstage orchestra pit for most of the show, but they had some shining moments, especially when they came front and center for a few songs towards the end of the set.
  • Fans received wristbands upon entering the zone. These were in sync with the performance and would light up, change color and flash at various points in the show. This allowed the fans (and the entire stadium) to become part of the atmosphere of the night and was a nice immersive effect.
  • Before the show, it seems that Many fans were trying sell tickets on social networks. Hopefully no one has been scammed.
