So far in the programming of its international concert season, the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra of Guayaquil promises one of its most special presentations for this Thursday, October 20.

Guayaquil Philharmonic Orchestra inaugurates concert season, dedicated to Bernard Fougères, with international artists

That night’s guest is the Puerto Rican cellist Emilio Colón, who will direct this concert, whose repertoire includes classical pieces, as well as the debut of an unpublished creation by the musician. It is the symphonic poem Poem to the heron in the Daule, that Columbus composed inspired by his brief stay in the city of Buenos Aires.

“My work arises from walking through the streets of Guayaquil and then driving to Nobol, where I shared the Daule River with Don Ramón (Sonnenholzner, founder of La Garza Roja and cultural manager). Then we played a concert where he was present and he heard one of my works and he asked me if he would inspire me to write something about what we had seen”, the instrumentalist tells this newspaper.

“It is a special work, because its world premiere will be in Guayaquil and it is a work inspired by the Guayaquil soil, by the words of great friends who encouraged me to write this beautiful interpretation of what was happening during my visit from my imagination.”

This concert will take place this Thursday, October 20, at 8:00 p.m. at the Centro de Arte Theater. It is part of the international season of concerts prepared by the Orchestra in agreement with Fundación Garza Roja.

In addition to the direction of Colón, the exceptional presentation will feature the intervention of his wife, Cara Elise Colón, also a cellist. Along with her, the musicians of the Philharmonic will perform, among others, the musical pieces of A. Vivaldi, E. Elgar, PI Tchaikovsky and LV Beethoven.

“Maestro Harutyunyan has given me the opportunity to choose how I wanted to present this concert. I chose works to be able to tell stories of the progression of centuries of music, beginning with the baroque period, reaching the 21st century, where works such as the Second Symphony by Beethoven… Just like Elgar’s work, which my wife Cara is going to play, it’s called love health; Vivaldi will be the first (of the concert) with whom I share the stage with her, both playing the cello, it is a way of sharing an idea of what love is, what passion is, with our beloved audience in Guayaquil”.

Tchaikovsky’s work, on the other hand, will be dedicated to Evelina Cucalón, Colón anticipates. Since this series of concerts by the Philharmonic Orchestra was presented, it was known that this season would become a great tribute to Cucalón and her husband, Bernard Fougères, a popular communicator in the Ecuadorian media, both deceased.

“They were beautiful friends of mine for more than 20 years and the work I am going to play by Tchaikovsky was the first I played when I came to Ecuador specifically brought by Evelina and much of the thinking about how to choose the repertoire is based on those beautiful friendships,” he points out. Colon.
