Popular Cuban singer Miguel Ángel Céspedes dies in Havana

The renowned Cuban singer Miguel Angel Cespedes, one of the most representative voices of Cuban romantic song during the 1980s, died in Havana last Monday, November 15 at the age of 66.

Céspedes was the victim of kidney failure, according to the user Mirka Pratts on her Facebook page, after explaining that the singer had been ill for many years and that for that reason he decided to return to the island after residing in Mexico.

“He had brutal kidney failure. I had been on dialysis for years, my health was very delicate, “he said.

The news was corroborated through his Instagram profile by the singer Francisco “Pancho” Céspedes, Miguel Ángel’s brother, who, visibly moved, thanked the messages of consolation.

“I thank all the people who have sent me their condolences for the death of my brother Miguel Ángel Céspedes. This is a pain that one does not know what it is like until it happens. I send a big kiss to you and him so that his path will be easier and he will be in a better place than this, ”he said.

As recalled CiberCuba, a couple of years ago, kidney disease forced the singer to enter the intensive care room of the Institute of Nephrology in Havana, where a friend had to resort to human solidarity to make an urgent blood donation.

“Miguel Ángel was one of my most important interpreters. He made two of my songs his forever, All all and Help me. In my days of punishment in the Pino Mar, in Santa María del Mar, he took refuge with his girlfriend at that time in that cabaret, which I directed anonymously, hoping to see me sing. He never left me. We all wanted to have his voice, but it only belonged to him ”, highlighted the composer Meme Solís.

For his part, the producer, arranger and composer Vicente Rojas confessed to feeling very sad about the departure of whom he considered one of his best friends.

“Miguel Ángel was one of my best friends and one of my great interpreters. His voice was decisive in the success of my songs That’s why I believe in you, you have to take care of love and Let me come back to you tomorrow who won an award in the Adolfo Guzmán music contest, ”said Rojas, who described him as a wonderful person. “He was a very warm and simple man. He was always in a good mood. I will never forget”.

For his part, the singer Alfredito Rodriguez He described Céspedes as a great interpreter of the romantic genre.

“He was an excellent performer of romantic music. Added to that quality was an extremely handsome physical presence, ”said Alfredito. “I remember an occasion when I invited him to one of my Cuban television programs and he showed his versatility when singing. The Chogüí bird, a very popular theme in the 50s that had nothing to do with his style. Rest in peace”.

Miguel Ángel Céspedes, born in Santa Clara, began his professional career in 1978. After graduating as a hydrographer, a profession he abandoned because the music was stronger, he achieved popularity by performing romantic ballads alone or in duo with Omara Portuondo, Beatriz Márquez and Annia Linares.

Throughout his career he also dabbled in movies Baraguá and Antonia, and he shared stages with Verónica Castro, Miguel Bosé, Café Quijano and Dyango, among other renowned artists.
