The radio is mourning the death of Polito Vega, the iconic Puerto Rican broadcaster known as the ‘king of radio’. At age 84, Vega passed away this Thursday in New York City.
The unfortunate news was known on the radio station LaMega 97, in New York, during its morning show. Through social networks, the station fired the well-known Puerto Rican broadcaster with a moving message.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Polito Vega. We cannot express how much we will miss him, but we are grateful for the time we had to share with him and the legacy he leaves in the world of radio. We extend our condolences to his friends and family Rest In Peace, Polito Vega “El Rey de La Radio”, published the station on social networks.

Grupo Niche also sent a message of condolences to Vega’s relatives and remembered him as “an important radio icon, who brought Latin music to life in the capital of the world.”
Although she was born in Puerto Rico, Vega arrived in New York City in 1959 and a year later had her first radio show, Fiesta Time. From that time and until his last days, he had a constant presence on New York radio and also ventured into music and television.
In addition, in recent years he had a space on weekends in New York’s La Mega, where he played salsa, merengue, bachata and boleros.
