Numerous tents burn down at Reading and Leeds festivals

The success of the documentary series “Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99” recently released by Netflix has generated a great discussion about the world of macro-festivals, about their safety and has left people amazed that things like the ones seen in the documentary could happen in a festival of these magnitudes.

That festival with 250,000 attendees and one of the most impressive lineups in history that included, among many other names, James Brown, Jamiroquai, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Alanis Morissette, Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Korn was a real disaster. organizational.

The festival ended with people making bonfires during the Red Hot Chilli Peppers performance. The fire escalated into violence and vandalism, resulting in the intervention of riot squads. ATMs and several semi-trailers were looted and destroyed.

They have recently gone viral shocking images of burning tents during two British festivals, Reading and Leeds that you can see by playing the video that illustrates this news.

Luckily, what has happened in these two mythical British festivals, which share the bill and are held at the same time, is far removed from what happened in the infamous Woodstock 99 but without a doubt the terrifying images have made me instantly remember the documentary that I had recently seen on Netflix

The police responded to allegations of “disorder and burning of tents” at the Reading and Leeds festival sites over the past weekend on August 25, 26 and 27.

Over the weekend thousands of music fans flocked to Little John’s Farm in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds to see performances by artists like Arctic Monkeys, Megan Thee Stallion, The 1975, Bring Me The Horizon, Halsey, Dave and much more.

Images from both sites were shared on social media showing tents burning at both sites, with other reports of objects being thrown and other incidents of disorder.

Images of the fires after the Arctic Monkeys

A festival goer managed to capture footage of tents burning around the Leeds Festival 2022 campsites. Annie Clapperton, 22, Manchester, arrived at the Leeds festival on Thursday to enjoy the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Dave.

Nevertheless, after the Arctic Monkeys finished their set on Sunday night, all hell broke loose and Annie went back to her shop to find that it had been cut up and searched. The night became increasingly unsafe as other festival goers began setting tents on fire, starting several fires in and around each of the camps.

Luckily the thing was in a scare, the fires were controlled, the people who had caused them expelled from the premises and no one was injured.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “While there were some reports of anti-social behaviour, no reports were made to West Yorkshire Police of any serious disorder at the festival over the last night.

“We are aware of sporadic tent fires, which were attended to by fire marshals on site, and people were then ejected. No police assistance was required.”
