‘Monotonia’, Shakira’s sung revenge against Piqué

A 26-word statement it was enough to announce their separation. Gerard Piqué, 35, and Shakira, 45, ended their relationship last June after 12 years together and two children together, Milan and Sasha. Almost five months after the news, the Colombian singer premieres her first post-breakup song, Monotony, with the Puerto Rican Ozuna, that leaves clues of what happened with the Catalan footballer.

Day after day since October 6, when the premiere of the song was announced, Shakira has been posting on her Instagram account — where she has almost 77 million followers — small advances: “It wasn’t your fault, nor was it mine, it was fault of the monotony”, intoned the artist in one of her first promotions. Since then, the artist has continued to spread references. One of the most shocking, and one that helped raise expectations on the subject, was a short video where a man was seen trampling on an apparently human heart. In other images, the heart (already in the form of an illustration) was pierced by a knife. One of her last publications, before the expected premiere, has been an acoustic version of one of the verses of the song. In the video, the interpreter is affected and emotional, as in the first teaser of the video clip.

A month before the separation announcement, when the rumors of a possible breakup were gaining more and more strength, Shakira published with Rauw Alejandro Congratulations, a theme that talks about infidelity and how the affected person discovers it. And the truth is that shortly after breaking up publicly, Piqué was related to Clara Chía, a 23-year-old student whom he supposedly met in early 2022. Shortly after, it was the couple themselves who confirmed the courtship.
