Mario Vaquerizo, about the Blonde Nancys: “We are Martians that the music industry does not take seriously”

Mario Vaquerizo has admitted that the music industry still does not “take Nancys Rubias seriously”, the musical group of which he is the vocalist despite his career of almost two decades, and has lamented that in the current music scene there is “a lot of victimhood”.

In an interview with Eph Before performing for the first time in Ceuta, Mario Vaquerizo commented: “We are Martians because we are not part of the music industry but, curiously, we are in the music industry, although we do not play on the radio and it seems that they do not take us seriously”. In the opinion of the man from Madrid, in the current music scene there is a lot of complaint from this “so stale” industry and from artists “who seem to die if they don’t sell records or fill a sports hall. Nowadays you can get a disc with your savings”.

Mario Vaquerizo, on the other hand, does not complain because, as he assures, “we do what we want at all times”, and this is one more job they do, “because Marta designs jewellery, Juan Pedro runs a very important sewing workshop in Barcelona, ​​Miguel is a producer for a telephone company and I do everything”, so Nancys Rubias is “our escape valve”. “The beautiful thing is when you finish a concert and see that the public had a good time. When the artist is well, the public is well too. Fun is the main thing, as we have shown in our career”, comment. He acknowledges that his group experiences this situation “from a very playful point of view, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t take it seriously because after so many years you end up becoming professional, but that playful essence with which Nancys Rubias was created, which At first it was a hobby and now it has become a way of life, it makes us happy”.

Currently, Nancys Rubias are on a national tour with an agenda of 38 performances for this year. “We are making a repertoire called ‘Nancy orchestra’ because we have become a bit like an orchestra where we sing hits by singers and groups that we really like, and then we also perform our own, which, after 18 years, some of us have” the singer jokes.

Social networks, an advance and a problem at the same time

In relation to the emergence of new technologies, Mario Vaquerizo has said that “they have had a global influence and have changed our behavior patterns, since now if you don’t upload a photo to Instagram it seems that you have done something wrong, that is, social networks are an advance and the problem is when they are not used properly”. “We have just launched our Instagram that a friend of ours takes us”, Add.

He has also valued the return to normality after a pandemic “that has scared us a lot and has made us reflect. Now it’s time to go back to doing what you always did.” Nancys Rubias has arrived in Ceuta after performing in Huelva and has stressed that the important thing is that the contractors “consider that we are suitable for a party for all audiences, since we sing for the whole world, we are a very diplomatic group and we have songs that reach audiences of all ages”.

And with five albums on the label under the Warner Music label, a “very important” label but with which they don’t feel any pressure “because we take out the records when we feel like it plus, we take the disc made to the company, who respects us a lot because we have always been very upfront, without deceiving anyone”.
