South Pyrenees This year it reaches the symbolic figure of 30 editions. It has been more than three decades in which the International Festival of Cultures Pirineos Sur has served to publicize from the swamp of wool Y Sallent de Gallego, in the Tena Valley, the most interesting and rich sounds from all corners of the world. This new edition comes as the most important musical event in Aragon. In 2022 attendance records were broken: almost 45,000 viewersfour ‘sold outs’ and double the number of viewers compared to 2019. To surpass the success, this edition will once again bet on a varied line-up, mixing styles and generations, with such prominent names as Rubén Blades, Bomba Estéreo, Ludovico Einaudi, Zaz and Luz Casal. Tickets are already on sale on the event’s website and the artists for the nights of July 21 and 22 still remain to be confirmed.
The 30th edition of Pirineos Sur will be held between July 7 and 29 and will once again seek to renew sounds and infrastructures to adapt the festival to the new needs of the public, in which a generational change has been noted after two years of pandemic .. Reggae, electronic, cumbia, rock, salsa, French chanson, pop… To the floating stage of Lanuza, which will also be climbed Love of Lesbian, Guitarricadelafuente, La Pegatina, Muerdo, Los Chikos del Maíz, Eskorzo, Dubioza Kolektiv and Rozalén.
This Wednesday the poster was presented at the Provincial Council of Huesca. Its president, Miguel Gracia, has indicated that Pirineos Sur “It is a quality mark of this province, that a natural enclave with many tourist possibilities is celebrated; a festival that many generations have enjoyed in these three decades of activity and that is an example of how the rural world can be a reference”. Likewise, he has indicated that the budget that the DPH allocates to the contest (€160,000), in a public-private collaboration model, has the territoryor a repercussion that is multiplied by 50 in the month of July, prologue of the tourist month par excellence in the PyreneesAugust.
Pirineos Sur takes place in the Lanuza reservoir, a rehabilitated town in one of the most beautiful areas of the Aragonese Pyrenees where you can go hiking, climbing, canoeing, paddle surfing, rafting… Those who prefer more tourist plans can visit the attractive towns of the Tena Valley and its surroundings (Sallent de Gállego, Jackfruit Stone, panticosa…) or simply savor its gastronomy. According to estimated data from last year, each visitor to the South Pyrenees spent an average of 160 euros per day, which meant almost 8 million euros of impact in the area, concentrating especially on accommodation, restaurants and sports activities.
In this sense, Gracia has indicated that “record attendance figures were achieved last year and this thirtieth anniversary is going to have even more repercussions, first of all, because there are pproposals that maintain the essence of the festival and also others that attract the interest of new audiencesand, secondly, due to the public-private collaboration model that we maintain with Sonde 3 Producciones as winners of the Lanuza floating stage management contest”, Grace is over.
In the absence of confirming some names, they will be 32 artists from 14 different countries. And this multi-nationality is expected to be reflected among the public as well: last year, during the 13 days of the festival, they attended Spectators from 26 different countries and from all Spanish provinces. In addition, this diversity also translated into a rejuvenated audience, one of the main objectives of Sonde 3.
Germán Quimasó, artistic director of Pirineos Sur, wanted to highlight that it has been a great responsibility to make the poster for this 30th edition. “We have recovered the internationality of the festival and this year we have once again exceeded the number of concerts that will be held in the natural auditorium of Lanuza. The objective is to continue retaining our usual audience, but also generate new audiences to rejuvenate our viewers”.
