QUITO (AP) _ The concerts of Marc Anthony and Juan Luis Guerra in Ecuador, scheduled for August and November, respectively, were suspended due to the wave of insecurity in the country, it was announced Thursday.

A wave of growing violence in Ecuador, generated by gangs associated with drug trafficking, caused an explosion on Sunday in the populous neighborhood of Cristo del Consuelo, in Guayaquil, leaving five dead and 17 injured. The government reacted by immediately decreeing a state of emergency to control the violence by joint groups of hundreds of police and military personnel.
