The history of metal from the 90s onwards would not be understood in the same way without Ramstein. The German band, commonly cited as a pioneer of the musical current Neue Deutsche Harte, It was one of the alternatives nu metal that little by little became popular from the United States to other parts of the world at the same time.
Yes, it is true that nu-metal ‘won the game’ (having supporters and detractors alike) becoming one of the most popular musical styles in those years. But precisely the merit is greater for the group led by Till Lindemann in that sense, because they gained unprecedented recognition on the world metal scene.
Here in Mexico, for example, Rammstein does have a more than extensive fan base. And throughout its history, the group formed in Berlin has made our country one of its almost obligatory stops when it comes to putting together world tours.
Well, now that Lindemann and company they return to Mexico in this 2022we add nostalgia to the matter remembering some of the times that the band has come to our country. Here are some photos and some cool videos to enter the trunk of memories with us.
Arrival in Mexico in 1999
By the end of the 90s, Rammstein already had a good run and quite a bit of recognition in Europe as a result of their first two albums: Herzeleid (1995) and Sehnsucht (1997).
Little by little they were gaining fans all over the world and in 1999, it was their time to try their luck on Mexican soil. The first presentation they gave in Aztec lands was in the Guadalajara Hard Rock Live on april 21, which was a modest show with a much smaller audience than they are used to today. Of course, those who went to that concert say that the band was spectacular.
After that gig, Rammstein headed to Mexico City to make it KISS opening act at the Foro Sol during the album tour Psycho Circus. While the American band’s show was obviously exciting, people who attended were pleasantly surprised by the German combo. Some even say that Rammstein overshadowed KISS with his performance.
The band returned in 2001 with the album ‘Mutter’ under their arm
the disco tour Mutter he had everything. The album meant the definitive leap to world fame for the band, it is also said that it was a turbulent composition process that complicated the group’s existence and on some dates from the end of 2001, until System Of A Down’s Daron Malakian he played with them as a temporary replacement for Paul Sanders.
In that same year, they also arrived in Mexico to playing in one of the pavilions of the Palacio de los Deportes, which was a bit odd as the Germans might as well have filled the main compound. But hey, maybe the speculation about how big of a fan base the band had was what made the organizers doubt about which venue to give to those in Berlin.
The autograph signing that took place in a well-known record store located in the Zona Rosa is also well remembered from that visit. The date between the fans and the band got out of control as the surrounding streets were clogged with people who wanted to stop by to meet the band… and well, even grenadiers had to arrive to calm things down. Anyway, the performances that August 2001 were amazing too.
Rammstein returned to Mexico until 2010 and then they came in 2011
Yes, it took a very long time for Rammstein to return to Mexico and in the process, they released up to three albums. So, as you can imagine, the band returned to our country in 2010 with an even more elaborate repertoire, in addition to an obviously better produced show and with the album Liebe ist für alle gives in full promotion.
That yes, although they still did not dare to bring the complete production that they used to mount in their European presentations, the dates of December 6 and 7 of that year at the Palacio de los Deportes They already came with the fire, the theatricality and the charisma well integer to fill a venue of that size.
A year later, that is, at the end of May 2011, Rammstein gave its first extensive tour of Mexican territory to play in the three bastions of the country: the Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
Some reviews published about those shows, highlighted that the band had finally brought all the production they gave on European tours. And yes, they were incendiary shows -in the good sense of the word- the ones they gave mexas for their fans. It was already more than clear that Mexico and Rammstein had a special bond.
Just listen to those choirs from the public.
Rammstein fell to Hell & Heaven 2016
Many will remember the show Rammstein at Hell & Heaven 2016 for many reasons. First, it was five years of waiting for them to return to Mexico (it’s hard for them to leave us wanting for a while hehe). Also, it was the first time they had come to a festival of this size in Mexican territory.
And the best thing is that they came to a presentation in ‘open field’, so to speak. This allowed the ideal setting for the pyrotechnic show to be assembled without setbacks, showing us for the first time what it was a show of the German band in ALL its splendor. Pure magic, without a doubt.
Celebrating the New Year from 2018 to 2019 in Puerto Vallarta
Ramstein knows that there is no better way to celebrate the New Year than on the beach. And of course, the Mexican coasts were his ideal place to put together a metal party on December 31, 2018 and January 2, 2019 in Puerto Vallarta.
Of course, they were a couple of quite special performances as we said goodbye to one year and celebrated the arrival of another. But beyond that and the great thing about being on the beach listening to good music, it should be noted that with these shows they were opening his world tour of the album ‘untitled’ which launched in 2019.
And since I couldn’t fail, they even had mariachi for that song we all know called “I love you, put….”. What luck those who were able to see the band in the midst of the warmth of the Jalisco coast.
