The Pare Manel Foundation It is one of the most prestigious non-profit institutions in the city. It was created in 2004 by the priest Manel Pousa and is dedicated to develop and lead social and educational action projects in Verdum-Roquetes. It acts, above all, to help the most vulnerable people, children, youth and families to promote socialization and reduce the inequality of opportunities suffered by boys, as well as to help those who leave prison to reintegrate. Father Manel died on September 9, a victim of the current pandemic but his collaborators continue with their work and therefore have organized, once again, a music festival to raise funds, like his famous Guanya’t el cel. Its titled unplugged and includes five great acoustic concerts that will take place in Gas Light, the room of his good friend and accomplice Fede Sardà, a businessman of those who do not remain, always open to solidarity and to collaborate in favor of just causes.
Tickets cost 20 euros and it is worth hurrying as the capacity is smaller than normal and it is a great opportunity to meet again with this emblematic room of the city before its long-awaited final reopening. All of them will start at 8:00 p.m. although the doors will open an hour before and will have as emcee to transgender artist and cupleist, actress and entertainer Brigitta Lamoure, who triumphs with her inseparable pink wig on the show Codi de Barris of the municipal chain betevé. She will be in charge of presenting each of these evenings providing fun, glamor and his sense of showmanship.
The first date takes place tonight with the performance of The Big Mouthers formed by the perfectionist JB Ibanez (guitar), the cheeky Nacho Ibanez (voice) and the rocker Iván Fusté (bass). Is a band that performs versions of classics since 2014 and one of the most impressive and requested. Its main virtue lies in his blunt, energetic and thunderous direct which, together with an attractive and authentic look, have made them a benchmark. But they also have their own songs that they dumped in 2016 on their album Wishes, full of rock and roll, as well as, in 2020, they released the single Poisoned Road. Today’s will be an acoustic concert in which they will review the greatest hits of pop and rock from the 80s to today.
The following artist is another regular in this room, presenter Manel Fuentes (day 3) which, as is well known, has a specialty soft spot for Bruce Springsteen and mimics him much more accurately than expected in his concerts for more than 15 years. On this occasion he will offer a acoustic and intimate version of the Boss themes while talking about fame, love and work. It is curious to see how Fuentes has integrated the singer-songwriter into his life and with the lyrics of his songs he is able to turn any piece into a show and, at the same time, make us reflect on life.
A gay choir and signature soul
The Barcelona Gay Men’s Chorus will be the guests on the 9th. It is a project that aims to give visibility and support to the LGTBI + collective while offering a highly visual show in which they combine aesthetics with music and choral singing. They have a very varied repertoire and an attractive staging. They are a non-profit entity that finances itself, enhances the vocal and artistic training of its members, offers a Show accessible for deaf people and collaborates in solidarity causes like this one. This concert is especially exciting for them because it is about their reunion after the forced pause and They will perform their greatest hits as well as discover their new creations.
The composer and singer Manu guix (day 10), very popular thanks to the program Triumph operation, he is also in a very sweet moment since he has just edited his latest work, Desprès de tot, which is his fifth studio album. The pianist defines it by explaining that, with it, opens “a path to signature soul & rdquor ;. In this album he has made all the basic arrangements while the production has been shared with Roger Rodés. But his fans will be satisfied since, in addition to presenting these songs, he will do an acoustic review throughout his career.
The legend comes home
And as the end of the party, a legend, the American Monica Green (Day 11), a great soul, funk and rhythm and blues who returns home after a year of absence, to the same stage where she had been performing continuously for 25 years until the pandemic hit. The regulars of Luz de Gas surely know that in their concerts nobody can stop still. Her career of more than 30 years has consolidated her as one of the most powerful voices in the country and carries the so-called black music in his veins. In her concert she will review the classics that have taken her to the top, some of which she has included in her latest and most ambitious album, The Project Soul, with great jazz, soul, blues and funky hits with songs by Etta James, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner or Michael Jackson. With her, now the party will be complete. Surely the good old Manel Pousa, wherever he is, will put a smile on his face and, in one way or another, he will be present. He really has “guanyat el cel”.
