Farruko, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro and more triumph at the Billboard Awards

MIAMI – The stage of the Billboard Latin Music Awards was distinguished on Thursday as a meeting point for music stars, where their new songs were released, their collaborations surprised and their great tributes moved.

The most prestigious Latin music award ceremony shone on Telemundo with the participation of more than 30 artists and celebrities, and the celebration of the night’s biggest winners who were Bad Bunny, Farruko, Karol G, Aventura, Eslabón Armado, Grupo Firme and Raw Alexander.

Colombian artist Camilo closed out the big night with the highly anticipated world premiere of “Aeropuerto Remix”, the official song of Telemundo’s exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. “Aeropuerto Remix” is an adaptation of “Aeropuerto ”, from his most recent album “From the inside to the outside”.

Hosted by Mexican actors Jaime Camil and Kate del Castillo, the show opened with the contagious rhythm and energy of Ozuna, who started the party with his television premiere of “La copa”. Then followed by the group Caliber 50, who performed their anthem for Mexican workers and fighters with “El Mexican es ca….”; while Los Ángeles Azules and Carlos Vives combined the Mexican and Colombian flavor with “Cumbia del corazón”, inviting everyone to dance.

With great feeling and melancholy, the Argentine artist Tini arrived, who presented her classic ballad “Flesh and bone”; while the Colombian Manuel Turizo performed his great summer hit “La bachata”. Later, the Mexicans from Grupo Firme performed their successful song “Ya supérame” and then joined the Colombian Camilo to present their first collaboration “Alaska”.

Farruko brought the urban rhythm with the new remix of “Nazareno” that included a special appearance by Ankhal, and also presented a preview of his next single “Viaje”. Then Colombian artists from Piso 21 and Manuel Turizo joined forces to perform their new collaboration “Los cachos”.

Without a doubt, some of the most memorable moments of the distinguished awards ceremony came with the special awards.

Chayanne received the Billboard Icon Award and delighted the public with the world premiere of his new song “Como tú y yo”; Christina Aguilera was distinguished with the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award and sang her response to the classic “El rey” by José Alfredo Jiménez, with “La Reina”.

The Spanish star Raphael was awarded the Billboard Artistic Career Award and in his tribute he was accompanied by Pablo López and CNCO in a medley of his greatest hits, including “Mi gran noche”, “Estar enamored”, “Como yo te amo” , “What does nobody know” and “Scandal”. In addition, the artist surprised everyone with the world premiere of his new song “Of so many people.”

In one of the most emotional segments, urban singer Nicky Jam received the Billboard Hall of Fame Award from his father, José Rivera, and performed the television premiere of his hit “Sin Novia”, while José Feliciano, was awarded the first Billboard Legend Award. The interpreter also celebrates 60 years of artistic career, which will be recounted through the documentary entitled “José Feliciano: Behind This Guitar”, which premiered on Thursday through Peacock in the United States.

The Colombian Maluma surprised his fans, choosing the stage of the event to perform the world premiere of his new song “June”. Regional Mexican music returned to the stage with the Eslabón Armado group to perform the song “Hasta la muerte” from their new album “Nostalgia”; and Elvis Crespo arrived with his tropical rhythm to get everyone dancing with a tribute to his song “Suavemente”, which included his merengue version of Bad Bunny’s “La neverita”.

The main winners of the awards held at the Watsco Center in Miami, Florida, were Bad Bunny with nine awards, including Artist of the Year and Tour of the Year. His album “Un Verano Sin Ti” took home the awards for “Top Latin Album” of the Year and “Latin Rhythm” Album of the Year, while his song “Volví” won Tropical Song of the Year.

The Puerto Rican artist won the award for Latin Rhythm Song of the Year with “Pepas” and upon receiving it sent a heartfelt message for the affected people in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Florida.

Farruko swept his song “Pepas” which won four awards including “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year; Latin Rhythm Song of the Year; Song of the Year, Sales; and Song of the Year, Streaming.

Karol G stood out among female artists with three awards, including “Hot Latin Song” Vocal Collaboration of the Year for “Mamiii,” “Hot Latin Songs” Artist of the Year, Female, and “Top Latin Albums” Artist of the Year, Female.

With two awards were Aventura, who won Tropical Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Tropical Song of the Year for “Volví”, and Rauw Alejandro, who thanks to his success “Todo de ti” won the Song of the Year awards, Latin Airplay and “Latin Pop” Song of the Year.

In the regional Mexican genre, Grupo Firme won the Regional Mexican Song of the Year for “Ya Supérame (Live From Culiacán, Sinaloa)” and “Hot Latin Songs” Artist of the Year. Eslabón Armado won Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and “Top Latin Albums” Artist of the Year, Duo or Group.

Meanwhile, Iván Cornejo won the Artist of the Year, Debut and Regional Mexican Album of the Year awards for “Alma Vaca”. The list of winners also featured Becky G, Christian Nodal, Enrique Iglesias, Maná, Marc Anthony, Romeo Santos, Rosalía, Skrillex, Tainy and Wisin & Yandel.
