Gregorio Uribe in the Lincoln Center Atrium

Colombian singer and accordionist Gregorio Uribe returns to Lincoln Center this Thursday, January 19, for the launch of his third album “Hombre Absurdo.” In his eternal search for a unique and personal sound, Uribe has gone beyond the familiar vallenato to explore the unknown rhythms of the sabanero accordion. The infectious rhythms of cumbia, paseaito, and pasebol are tinged with Cuban timba, Puerto Rican bomba, and Dominican merengue, reinforcing the artist’s love of Afro-Latin music. His passion for rhythm and harmony is matched only by his admiration for great literary and philosophical works. Echoes of Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard mix with the sounds of rural Colombia in a way that we could only describe as “Existential Cumbia”.. At 7:30 p.m. Free. Salsa concert with Jimmy “El Trombón Criollo” Bosch

Lincoln Center’s Latino concert series, ¡VAYA!, this time welcomes Jimmy “El Trombón Criollo” Bosch. The New Jersey-born musician whose 50-year career includes extensive tours with the FANIA Orchestra, Eddie Palmieri and Rubén Blades, currently directs the Salsa Masters Orchestra and is a pioneering voice for today’s generation of hard salsa performers. Bosch and his ensemble draw musical strength from the traditional formula of driving percussion, danceable trombone and piano melodies, and resonant soneos, with the vibrant call-and-response vocal improvisation that ties the band to legendary New York salsa groups of the 1960s and 1970s. The Red Hood in the SEA

“Double Trouble” exhibition

Jane Lombard Gallery is presenting “Double Trouble,” a project by Kyoto artists Teppei Kaneuji and Chihiro Mori. Collaborating under the name “CMTK”, the duo’s recent and new lenticular works from the Star & Dust series will be featured. Kaneuji’s exploratory methods of print and collage, along with Mori’s own photographs and collection of found images, result in a fragmented amalgamation of pop culture and personal snapshots, changing with the viewer’s changing point of view. Several new dimensional collage works from Kaneuji’s surreal series The Sea & Pus: An Illustrated Guide to Animals will also be on display. Double Trouble will be on view until February 25.
