Europe: a Swedish band that succeeded singing rock in English, star of ‘El Rock&Roll Has Dead’

When Europe they started moving their demos, looking for a record deal, they always got the same answer: a Swedish rock band, singing in English, had no future. Did they give up? Well no. And what happened is that the band (still called Force) entered a talent contest in Sweden, the prize for which included recording an album. This happened in 1982, and about four thousand groups entered the contest. The prize, as you can imagine, went to our protagonists. But the most curious thing is that, with that album, the group managed to enter the Top 10 of the lists… In Japan! In fact, it is a country where Europe continues to maintain a very loyal fan base.

This was the beginning of Europe, but over the years the band has gone through several phases: from making it big with the album ‘The Final Countdown’ and becoming the most successful band of the mid 80’s, to being one of the its founders (the gutiarrista John Norum) abandoned the ship in full crest of the wave. For this, and much more, canco rodriguez Y Chuspi have opted for this week’s shadow artist to be a band. Find out in ‘Rock&Roll Has Dead’.

In addition to founding Toto, Jeff Porcaro played on over 1000 albums, Rick Allen (Def Leppard) collaborated on the soundtrack of ‘Brink!’, Ray Manzarek (The Doors), produced the first four albums of the legendary X Y Steve Jordan (current battery The Rolling Stones) accompanied Eric Clapton, to The Blues Brothers and was part of the band Saturday night Live!

Sometimes the history of rock is not exactly as we know it or are told, there are personalities who have been unfairly undervalued, but absolutely essential for the survival of the style, so, with the aim of making the work of these geniuses better known in the shadow is born ‘El Rock&Roll Has Dead’, a program dedicated to those who have been overshadowed by rock throughout history. At the controls, two passionate about music and great stories like the actor Canco Rodríguez and Chuspi, manager, promoter and expert in musical “messes”. In the first season, with their grace and complicity, they will delve into the exciting stories of names like John Deacon (Queen), Ray Manzarek (The Doors), Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Rick Allen (Def Leppard) or Jeff Porcaro ( Toto).
