Two decades of EPICA

EPICA was born after the departure of Mark Jansen of AFTER FOREVER in 2002. Although at first the group was called SAHARA DUSTin 2003 it acquired its definitive name.

Nuclear Blast adds in its press release:

After his ambitious debut, “The Phantom Agony” (2002), and the surprisingly eclectic sophomore effort, “Consign To Oblivion” (2005), the road took them to new heights with their first conceptual masterpiece, “The Divine Conspiracy” (2007), and his worldwide breakthrough, “Design Your Universe” (2009). The opus of 2012 “Requiem For The Indifferent”the dazzling “The Quantum Enigma” 2014 and his best and most embellished effort to date, “The Holographic Principle” (2016), cemented their reputation as not only one of the hardest-working metal bands in the business, but also one of the best. And point.

With “Omega“, the final part of the metaphysical trilogy that began with “The Quantum Enigma”, regain the throne without batting an eyelid, amassing more than three million views during the first week of the album’s release. “Omega” is a unit album, of friendship, of the close bond its members share. An album that has come naturally as a group effort. And it’s no wonder: Mark Jansen, Simone Simons and keyboardist Coen Janssen they have been playing together since EPICA’s conception in 2002, with drummer Ariën Van Weesenbeek joining as early as 2007, and lead guitarist Isaac Delahaye following in 2009. In 2012, bassist Rob Van Der Loo was the latest addition to their ranks.

For eight years, three albums and hundreds of concerts, this band has formed a indestructible unit. In the midst of a world in turmoil, of cataclysmic change in society, EPICA has managed to create their most spectacular album to date. An album that perfectly combines brass and orchestra, choir and oriental instruments in a perfect storm that constantly gives goosebumps. A disc with suites specifically written for orchestra and choir, with a wide range of ethnic instruments recorded from around the world by some of the best native musicians around.

In summary: they have outdone themselves. One more time. And yet they still managed to keep the songs accessible and devilishly catchy. Since forming in 2002, the band has racked up an incredible number of hits, “Omega” entering the top 10 albums in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. EPICA has toured all over the world, playing venerable festivals like Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Heaven & Hell festival, Heavy MTL and Download, as well as performing in countries where many metal bands haven’t played, like South Korea. South, South Africa and Venezuela.

In February 2021 the Dutch band put up for sale “Omega”their latest album (which we talk about in this interview with simone simons).
