Last weekend of September 17 and 18 Bogotá was on everyone’s lips for Coldplay and Dua Lipa concerts which took place at the El Campín stadium and the Salitre Mágico parking lot. The British band performed twice on the sports stage and brought together nearly 80,000 people who enjoyed one of the most impressive shows in recent years; On the other hand, the Kosovar Albanian singer appeared in the capital and despite the fact that her show was impeccable, criticism arose due to its organization.

The mayor of Bogota, Claudia López, was enthusiastic for what happened in Bogotá due to the great shows that were held last weekend and how these types of events allow progress in the economic reactivation due to the fact that many people entered the country to enjoy these two concerts, reaching occupy 85% of accommodations in hotels.

“The economic reactivation goes hand in hand with the development of great shows! This weekend tourists came from all over to enjoy the music of Dua Lipa and Coldplay, They stayed in hotels in the city, achieving an occupancy rate of 85%. Claudia López referred precisely to the figures that were published by Alfredo Bateman, secretary of development of Bogotá, who assured that holding this type of event becomes a mechanism of economic reactivation, which was strongly affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

“Bogota had a hotel occupancy of more than 85%. The cultural agenda and major events (for all audiences and income levels) is a great mechanism for economic reactivation and celebration of life after the pandemic. Thanks to those who make it possible.” Bateman assured in his social networks.

According to the Secretariat of Economic Development of Bogotá, the hotel occupancy during the last weekend in which the Dua Lipa and Coldplay concerts were presented was 85.27%, “which is equivalent to 17,227 occupied rooms out of 20,203 available”. They also point out that the average rate was 261,273 pesos and this generated sales of more than 4.5 billion pesos.

During their stay in Bogotá, the band Coldplay gave away posters, caps, t-shirts and toys to children who are hospitalized in the Simon Bolivar Hospital; They also gave some gifts to the health personnel who were in the hospital.

The band wanted to donate some gifts to the people who work here and to the children. Although they would like to come, for different reasons they cannot, that is why today we make this small gesture, which is to donate some details (…) I am very excited to be here today, it is incredible”, assured Poppy Ogilvy, representative of Coldplay who was present at the delivery of these gifts.
