Coldplay, with a show full of effects, starts a tour of South America in Rio

Rio de Janeiro, September 10. With a show full of special effects that not even the rain was able to water down and that turned the City of Rock into a tapestry of lights and colors, Coldplay took advantage of their presentation this Saturday at Rock in Rio to kick off their tour in Rio de Janeiro through South America.

The British band was the main attraction on the penultimate day of the new edition of Rock in Rio in Brazil and knew how to capture all the attention on a rather eclectic day in which the American singer of Cuban origin Camila Cabello and the quartet also performed. English Bastille, among others.

Despite the fact that it introduced some novelties because it was a special festival, a concert for 100,000 attendees and the celebration of 48 years of guitarist Jonny Buckland (whom the public honored after the performance of Magic), Coldplay’s presentation this Saturday gave a sample of what will be the South American leg of the “Music of the Spheres” tour.

After the six concerts it offered at Wembley Stadium in London in recent days, in which it showed all the attractions of the tour, the group led by Chris Martin will offer twenty presentations in the coming weeks in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo , Lima, Santiago, Bogota and Buenos Aires.

As soon as the group began to play, the stalls became a giant stage for a show of lights and colors starring the public, who did not mind the light but persistent rain that punished the City of Rock.

All thanks to the 100,000 LED bracelets distributed by the organizers and equipped with a chip and a radio system that made them light up in colors depending on the rhythm and intensity of the music.

The show also featured showers of biodegradable confetti and fireworks and laser light shows on various songs.

Because it is a tour inspired by the universe of the “Star Wars” franchise, different allusive figures were broadcast on the gigantic screen located behind the stage, as well as reproductions of planets and solar systems.

On the musical side, Coldplay favored the songs from “Music of the Spheres”, the group’s ninth studio album and released exactly a year ago, but did not leave out some of their major hits, such as “Paradise”, “The Scientist”, “Yellow”, “My Universe” and “Fix You”.

Chris Martin, who all the time interacted with the public and even risked phrases in Portuguese, sang “Viva la vida” twice, feeling that the band’s fans were still chanting at the end of the first performance.

And the band further encouraged the public by wearing alien masks

Coldplay’s concert at Rock in Rio was preceded by that of Camila Cabello, who offered a large part of the songs from “Familia”, her third album and which she released last April, including “Celia”, dedicated to fellow Cuban Celia Cruz. and that in Rio de Janeiro he performed live for the first time.

The singer, who made her Latin roots clear and sang some of her Spanish songs, including “Hasta lostoothes”, in which she was accompanied by the Argentine María Becerra, did not stop singing her greatest hits: she began precisely with “Señorita ” and left “Havana”, “Bam Bam” and “Dont go yet” for last.

And to please the Brazilian public even more, he wrapped himself in the “green-yellow” flag and performed the song “Ai preto” in Portuguese together with funkeiros DJ Biel, MC Bianca and Lennon.

Another attraction this Saturday was the British group Bastille, who offered their mix of alternative and indie rock with a bit of electronica, and who presented their album “Give Me the Future” (2022) in Brazil.

The new edition of Rock in Rio, the twenty-first in its history and the ninth in the Brazilian city where it was born in 1985, arrived this Saturday at the sixth of seven days. The festival organized concerts on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Concerts by bands such as Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Green Day, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Gilberto Gil, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Camila Cabello and Avril Lavigne were also scheduled for this year’s event. EFE
