A characteristic of the visits of the British band to Argentina is the gesture of speaking in Spanish as much as possible.
In all his visits to Argentina with Coldplaythe singer Chris Martin made an effort to speak in Spanish and not in English before the local public, a nice gesture that people always appreciated. The debut of the ten shows in River was no exception.
The unusual thing is that really they were not a handful of phrases of rigoras many artists do: “Good evening”, “Thank you”, “Hello Buenos Aires” or “I love you a lot“. Chris Martin put together whole sentences and only a couple of times he threw in the towel midway and continued in English.
the first greeting
The first words were about the end of the second song, Adventure of a lifetime: “Good evening to our Argentine family! I’m asking you for a favor, all of you below,” and he motioned for all the people in the field to crouch down. When he did, setting an example by crouching himself on the long catwalk that ran from the stage to midfield, he counted to three. , jumped up and resumed the subject, everyone imitated him and multiplied the fervor with that little skit.
Apologies for your Spanish
After the fourth theme, scientistwhere Chris sat down at the piano, more words came: “Thank you very much, friends, girls and boys, gentlemen and gentlemen, handsome men and women. Thank you with all my heart for the honor of being with you in Buenos Aires. I’m sorry because of my Spanish, but I want to try…” and he threw in the towel and continued in English: “Thank you everybody for being here”.
He added that they were very grateful, “thank you for the effort to be here despite all the problems in the world, the economic ones, the covid and everything.”
Before the Soda theme
One of the strengths of the show Coldplay in River is the famous hit of Soda Stereo, of light music. It was the eighth theme of the night, closing a section on the small stage at the end of the catwalk, after singing the ballad let somebody go a duet with HER (whom he fired saying “The best!”.
However, the introduction was in English: “Everybody ok? We are very happy to be here, you’re the best. We love singing for you but also when you sing for us.” She immediately began to walk towards the stage with the electric guitar and did the distinctive riff of the song composed by Gustavo Cerati and Zeta Bosio.
a false alarm
About half of the famous Yellow, Chris Martin stopped the topic, said “Thank you so much everyone!” and he was about to say something when suddenly he saw something among the people that made him ask everyone to move so that a doctor could help someone. Nobody saw clearly what was happening, not even him, to the point that he quickly realized that nothing was happening, and told the fan “You need to apologize to everybody”.
He went back to what he was going to say originally and asked the people in the front of the field to turn around and sing while looking at those in the back stands. “Now they are friends”, she exclaimed and finished singing Yellow.
a harangue
In Sky full of stars he stopped a song in the middle again, as if they had made a mistake. They got together, deliberated and Chris Martin said: “I have another favor, this is the greatest audience in the world. You already have gold medal” and asked everyone to sing the chorus with more force. They started up again and suddenly everyone was dancing and jumping and singing more than before.
The thanks of the encore
After saying goodbye and returning to the third stage located at the back of the field, at the opposite end of the main stage, they played Sparks and at the end he said: “It’s the best Tuesday of my life. We like to start or finish in Argentina because it’s like being in heaven.” He asked everyone to raise their hands to send love and good vibes to the entire world, including Iran, Russia, Armenia, China and Tibet.
Happy, euphoric and tired, the musicians finished shortly before midnight, after almost two and a half hours of concert where Chris Martin demonstrated once again that he has a good command of Spanish.
